viÖZETKonu bakımdan ?Azerbaycan'da Kentleşme ve Sanayileşme SüreciÇerçevesinde Bakü Örneği? başlığını taşıyan bu tez çalışması içerik olarak kentolgusu ve kentleşme sürecini irdeleyerek, Azerbaycan Cumhuriyetinin şehirlerini vebaşkenti Bakü'yü kentleşme olgusu ve sanayileşme açısından araştırmaktadır. Buanlamda Azerbaycan'ın şehirleşme tarihini tarihsel, sosyal ve özellikle de kentleşmeolgusu açısından irdeleyerek, modern çağda kent olgusunun bu bölgede ne denliyerleşmiş olduğunun izini sürmektedir.Bilindiği gibi, Azerbaycan tarihsel olarak kentleşme açısından dört aşamageçirmiştir. Rus işgalinden önceki dönemi klasik şehirleşme süreci olaraktanımlarsak, işgalle birlikte yaşanan süreç erken kapitalist dönem, Sovyetlerlebirlikte sosyalist dönem ve Sovyetlerin yıkılışıyla birlikte Azerbaycan'ın serbestpiyasa ekonomisine geçişiyle çağdaş anlamda modern kent görünümünü kazanmıştır.Bu açıdan da araştırmamız bu dönemlere göre bir içeriğe sahip olup, toplam dörtbölümden oluşmaktadır. Bu çerçeve kapsamında sonuç olarak Bakü şehrininkentleşme ve sanayileşme süreci aydınlatmak istenmiştir.Kent anlayışı tarihsel dönemlerin değişimiyle yenilenen bir olgu olsa da, tarihboyunca var ola gelmiş, sosyal yaşamın merkezinde yer almıştır. Bu yüzden konuylailgilenen araştırmacının da tarihsel süreç içersinde değişen ve değişmek zorundakalan kent olgusunu ve kentleşme sürecini tarihi değerlere uygun olarak tarafsızbiçimde belirlemesi gerekmektedir. Bu tespitten hareketle Azerbaycan'da kentleşmesüreci ve özellikle de Bakü'nün kentleşme ve sanayileşme süreci kent olgusu ve kentkimliği açısından değerlendirilmiştir.ANAHTAR KELİMELER: Kent, Kentleşme, Sanayileşme, Kapitalist, Sosyalist,Serbest Piyasa Ekonomisi, Azerbaycan, Bakü.viiSUMMARYThis thesis titled ?Baku in The Process of The Urbanisation and The İndustrialisationof Azerbaijan? analyses the processes of urbanisation and industrialisation in Baku,the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It presents a study of the history ofurbanisation in Baku, with a special emphasis on historical, social and urbancharacteristics; and as such, tries to determine the extent to which the concept ofurbanisation, in its modern sense, has been experienced in this city.It is known that, the historical development of urbanisation in Azerbaijan has gonethrough four stages. These are as follows: (1) classical urbanism before the Russianoccupation; (2) early capitalist urbanisation together with the occupation; (3) thesocialist period under the Soviet rule; (4) rise of modern urbanism, in itscontemporary sense, in the post-Soviet period, during which the market economy hasbecome dominant. Therefore this study involves four sections, each one focusing ona different period. As such a comprehensive analysis of the urbanisation process inBaku is presented.Even though the conception of the city has changed over time, the city has alwayskept its central position in social life. Therefore, also the researcher, who holdsinterest in the issue, should provide an objective account of the city and the processof urbanisation, by taking into consideration the historical conditions under whichthe city has changed and has had to change over history. Starting off from thisperspective, this thesis explores urbanisation in Azerbaijan and especially in Bakucoupled with the process of industrialisation and in relation to the conceptions of thecity and the urban identity.
