69 SUMMARY As soon as a child falls into the womb of his mother he has got some rights. It is hardly possible for him to use those rights when he comes to the world. To prevent him being harmed, his parents use his rights instead of him. The child represents a different development both in mentally and physically. This development differs from child to child. The last limit of physical development is accepted as puberty while the mental development is regarded as maturity. Since it is difficult to limit maturity and puberty in a certain age a symbolic age is accepted. Everybody without exception has certain rights. And he is given the right of performing in the society (eda ehliyeti) when he proves his maturity. As the child knows the wrong and the right his parents force him perform the prayers. If he doesn't do so he is punished not because of quitting performance but because of breaking the rules of Islamic society. The physical punishment is not applied to children but fines are paid by his parents. Islam has given great importance to children, the examples are: -Sacrificing animals for them, -Giving charity, -Calling the children with good and meaningful names.70 KAYNAKÇA Akipek, Jale G.
