This study is an attempt to understand the origins of art in tenns of its creative essence and the universal aspect in view of the Platonic notion of techne as it takes <;hape in the dialogues of Plato. The method of inquiry depends upon taking into account the content of the dialogues as the only criterion which is none other than philosophia and accordingly disregarding the external criterions (chronological and stylistic) as long as these criteria restricts the dialogues in tenns of their content. By means of gathering the main points of Platonic thinking around tecl111e, philosophia is then found out to be rather an activity of sophos in which philosophos is 'turning' (periakteon) from genesis (becoming) to to on (being) insofar as this“turning”is accompanied by 'seeing' in the sense of noesis. Within this framework, the critical inquiry of the notion of art that took shape after Plato, is then studied via the four main concepts and the relevant thinkers in view of Platonic Techne only to find out that these thinkers in fact developed their theories of art on the basis of the omission of Platonic sense of philosophia. As regards the final outcome of the study, insofar as art is taken from a Platonic point of view, anthropos ~ the creative essence of art as well as its universal aspect. HO\vever, here anthropos in the sense of 'man' must be understood in his individual essence and not as something like a broad fonnal concept. In this regard, individuality as all man's possibility, is not something that 'man' has like a readymade suit but must be acquired in tenns of an activity of deepening that takes place within oneself, and which seems to be the only way to gain freedom from amathia (ignorance) and agnoia (blindness due to lack of seeing in the sense of noesis).
