Özet
Erdem kavramı tarihin seyri içerisinde teologların, felsefecilerin, yazarların, şairlerin dilinde değişerek birbirinden farklı anlamlar kazanmıştır. Genel olarak erdem, insanı tinsel açıdan yetkinliğe ulaştıran ahlaksal iyiler bütünü; düşüncelerinde ve eylemlerinde hedefini ahlaksal iyiye yönlendirmiş insanın niteliği; iyiliği isteme, kötülükten kaçınma şeklinde tanımlanabilir. Mutluluk ise, ruhun akla uygun davranışta bulunması veya ruhun erdeme uygun etkinliğidir. Bu tanımlardan anlaşıldığı gibi erdemler, mutluluğun araçlarıdır. Dolayısıyla erdemli davranışta bulunmayı kişiliğinin bir parçası haline getiren insanlar, haliyle mutlu insanlar olabilmektedir. Dinlerde erdem, teolojik olarak, Tanrı ile canlı bir ilişkiden, onun sözlerine uygunluktan, onun irade ve isteklerine derin ve istikrarlı bir yönelişten ibarettir. Bu ilişkinin insanı doğru kılma ve her iki dünyada mutluluğa eriştirme fonksiyonu vardır. Dolayısıyla erdemli kişinin bir takım özellikleri söz konusudur. Buna göre erdemli bir kişi, Tanrı'yı arayan ve bu amaca erişmek için, Tanrı'nın ona çizdiği ve de üzerinde onun kişisel gelişimini bulacağı tek yolu izleyendir. Kitab-ı Mukaddes ve Kur'an-ı Kerim'de erdem ve mutluluk konusunu ele aldığımız bu çalışmada, erdem ve mutluluğun önemini genel anlamda ortaya koyup, insanların erdem ve mutluluğa nasıl ulaşabileceklerini incelemeye çalıştık.

The concept of virtue, in the course of the history, has gained different meanings in the language of theologians, philosophers, writers and poets. Virtue generally can be defined as a totality of those which are morally good that brings people to spirutal competence; as the nature of the human being that aims at moral good in his ideas and actions; and as a desire for goodness and abstain from evil. Happiness, on the other hand, is a behavior of spirit which is completely in line with the mind or the activity of soul that is totally in compliance with virtue. Virtue, as can be seen from above definitions, is the means of happiness. Therefore, those who make virtuous behavior a part of their personality could become happy people. Virtue in religions is theologically nothing more than a living relationship with God, conforming to his words and a deep and consistent orientation to his will and desire. This relationship has a function that makes people righteous and reaches them happiness in both worlds. Thus, there are a number of features of a virtuous person: a righteous person is the one who seeks God and to reach this objective, he follows the only way drawn by God for him and on which he could find his personal development. In this study in which we have handled the issue of virtue and happiness both in the Bible and the Holy Koran, focusing on the importance of virtue and happiness in general terms, we have tried to examine how people can reach virtue and happiness.
