115 SUMMARY Because of having a short history the Turkish Theatre has faced with many problems in every period; and still is in a search for identity. It is discussable that whose duty is more difficult among the laborers of the theatre. But the playwrights' role cannot be discussed. We always complain about the plays' quality, but we don't support the productive play wrights. In this study, my aim is to examine the different as pects of a yong Turkish writer's works, which offers hope. But I don't claim that I say the last word about his works. I only try to understand him, to get acquainted with him more closely; and to make him known more widely. The main theme of“Yangın Yerinde Orkideler”is the search for identity of an intellectual with an eclectic mind. Baydur brings six charecters together on the docks. They are prototypes of different sacial classes. The play begins on the docks at midnight. A man who plans to commit suicide, meets with Nuri, a“clochard”. Then, Neriman (aprostitute and a friend of Nuri) Joins them. After a while Nebati (a factory owner), Nurçin (his mistress, a boutique owner) and Nezih (Nebati 's adrisor) enter the stage and the play goes on... In this study, the reader can find the point of view of an actorabout the works of Memet Baydur; and documentary information about the play“Yangın Yerinde Orkideler”which I staged.
