Çağla Aykaç'm Atatürk lkeleri ve Inkilap Tarihi Ensitüsu'ne Haziran 2003 'de Sunduğu Tezin Özetidir. Başlık: Kemalist Utopia, La Turquie Kemaliste Propaganda Dergisinin incelemesi (1934-1948) Bu tez, 1934 ile 1948 arasında yayımlanan propaganda dergisi La Turquie Kemaliste'i ele alıyor. Şimdiye kadar derinlemesine incelenmemiş buı dergi, içerdiği çok sayıda fotoğraf ve dönemin öndegelen entellektüelleri tarafından yabancı dilde yazılmış yazılarıyla Curnhuriyet'in kendini nasıl yansıttığını anlamak için son derece ilginç bir birincil kaynak. Bu çalışma, La Turquie Kemaliste'te kullanılan söylem ve görsel ve yazılı sembolleri, Cumhuriyetin uluslarası alanda meşruiyet arayışının ifadesi olarak inceliyor. Bu meşruiyet arayışının en önemli ayağımn yeni ve başka bir rejim olma iddiası olduğu, La Turquie Kemalisterm Cumhuriyet sayesinde toplumsal yaşamın, insanın ve devletin tamamıyla değiştiği izlenimi verme çabasında görülüyor.

An Abstract of the Thesis of Çağla Elçin Aykaç for the Degree of Master of Arts Degree at the Atatürk Institute for Modern Turkish History to be taken in June 2003. Title:“Kemalist Utopia, Study of the Propaganda Magazine La Turquie Kemaliste (1934- 1948).”This thesis is built around the study of the magazine La Turquie Kemaliste, published in Ankara between the years 1934-1947. La Turquie Kemaliste is of particular interest as it contains a great number of photographs, and was written in French, English, and German by leading Turkish intellectuals of the time. During this period, the Turkish Republican leadership invested considerable efforts to publicize symbols that aimed to represent and embody the spirit and nature of the Turkish Republic. These efforts to shape and represent the“New Turkey”were to be felt in all fields of life, from dress to attitude, from education to social services, from railroads to villages, from urban planning to the conception of nature, from history to literature, from architecture to arts, from what it meant to be a woman, a man, a child, to what it meant to be a Turkish citizen. While the project did aspire to mark a break from the Ottoman past, it was mostly oriented towards the future, it was a total project that was contemporary to its time. La Turquie Kemaliste, in its shape and its content, is a collection of the textual and visual symbols which were to be backbones of the new state leadership that was conscious that national and international legitimacy involved, among others, holding the power over its image. The use of carefully selected visual and textual symbols as a tool for propaganda was to contribute to the construction of the new Turkish state and the consolidation of the power of the Republican leadership as much as economic policies, political or legal developments, or military expenditure and intervention. The magazine offers snapshots of a Kemalist Utopia and positions Turkey in the world order of the time.
