ABSTRACT Today, multistory buildings are designed using structural steel systems, reinforced concrete systems and composite systems. Each of theese system have advantages and disadvantages from the construction procedure and the stability point of view. Up today when the constructed multistory building samples are examined in the world, it is seen that steel systems have been widely used compared to the reinforced concrete systems [11]. In this study, it has been tried to present different structural steel systems which are used currently. The main goal is the able to give an idea about structural design of multistory steel buildings. It is bilieved that this object will be inevitable at the future, for the Turkish designers. In the first chapter of this study, multistory buildings are basically and historically introduced. Properties of structural steel are presented in chapter two. Advantages and disadvantages of steel as a structural material are given in this section. General considerations in the selection of the type of structural systems for a multistory steel buildings are examined in the third chapter. Vertical and horizontal structural systems in the multistory steel buildings are investigated in Chapter 4. In the 5th chapter case studies are made. An example of a model using the structural steel systems in a building is investigated and compared to the similar reinforced concrete systems that has been applied in Hilton Building construction in Izmir. ¦i-
