The Sumraary The 1908 elections, in spite of ali handicaps, is the first modern elections in Turkish political history. These elections are the starting point of many radical transfor^atüons and of some new traditions in Turkey's politcal structura and life: a)The efficay of the duality, as central-left and central- right, on our political structure. b)The political fan's largeness and the emergence and existence of a multitude of small political parties. c)The“front politics”of the opposition at the level on the party's prograrame and ideology. d)The relative autonomy of the press vis-a-vis political parties and its sensible determinant and efficacy on political life. How to assess the results of the 1908 elections? in a cold-blooded comment, the results are neither absolute victory of the“İttihat ve Terakki”nor the consequence of the pressure on the“Ahrar”. They are the outcomes of the very original historical conditions.
