160 SUMMARY Computer Based Financial Planning Models, in Financial Decisions is to support financial planning that is the process of planning financial aspects of an organization. Because of the tendency to mechanise the decision making process, the use of models, especially the mathematical models, for problem solving become widespread. Mathematical models are quantitive techniqes that help us to analyze the effects of an incident to the future by using the results and the integrations of incidents take place in the past. Computer based financial planning models, are the computer based mathematical models developed to analyze the financial incidents by using financial variables. Whilst the computer provides the power to calculate answers very rapidly, it is the mathematical modeling that directs the calculations. Developing a computer based financial planning model follows a certain frame-work or stages that are given below: a.Identifying the problem, b. Analyzing the variables and constraints, c. Identifying the relationships between variables, d. Formül at i on, e. Developing the model, f. Developing the model at the computer, g. Testing the model.161 h. Applying the model. Models must reflect reality; but if a model closely reflects reality, it is likely to become too complex. There must be a balance between the complexity which the model should have to reflect reality and the simplicity which the model should have to be developed without making a mistake. The most important advantage of the computer based financial planning models is their flexibility. This flexibility provides the capability to conduct“What If?”type experiments to evaluate the impact of different cash management, debt, equity policies on the profit and loss statement and balance sheet of the corporatin. This also provides making financial projections based on the alternative assumptions about factors that cannot be controlled by the firm. This thesis that aims at describing computer based financial planning models has four basic sections except introduction and conclusion sections. The contents of these sections can be summarized as follows : The second section describes conceptual aspects of models.Relations between models and decision making process, classifying of models and the mathematical model development process are the topics covered in this section. The third section deals with“Computer Based Planning Models”. Planning, Information and Computer systems which162 are the subsystems of a computer based planning model are explained in this section. Another topic of this section is Corporate Planning Models that has widespread use. The fourth section covers“Computer Based Financial Planning Models”. Financial modelling, financial modelling software, financial modelling techniques, implementation of financial models, financial planning and financial planning models are the topics discussed in this section. In the fifth section a case study is given by using a hypotetical corporation's balance sheet, profit and loss statement and assumptions about policies of the corporation. Later a model that produces balance sheet, profit and loss statement and financial ratios for a planning horizon of 5 years is developed and simulated for making financial decisions and determining financial policies.
