m ABSTRACT The study aims at the formation of Gaographicam survey of Yazıköy. Yazıköy is a rural settlement belonging to Safranbolu, located within the borders of Zonguldak, in Western Blacksea Region. Yazıköy is located on Safranbolu Plateu. The piateu, about 500-600 high is divided by Güvercinlik and Eflani streams of Araç river. Yazıköy is a rural settlement that has a dense population due to the development of economicial activities in the region. The population of the village which was 895 in 1935, increased 74.5% between 1935-1990, and became 1562 in 1990. The factory in Karabük has the greatest effect in the increase of population. Yazıköy, which etibits a characteristics of mass settlement and contains temporary settlements with houses within fields reflects a feature of town settlement in social life, although it is ruled ay a village. Yazıköy is an agriculturally developed village, Especially the grape fields in and around Safranbolu developed a lot. About 25% of the grapes around Safranbolu come from Yazıköy. The study focused on natural and human environmental features of Yazıköy and tried to suggest some ways of solutaion for the problems existing in the area. The Safranbolu houses in Yazıköy reflet a concordance with natural and environmental conditions. But, the houses built today do not have the same characteristics since they are built by modem means of building.
