This study was designed to be a preliminary step in the Turkish standardization process of the CPl. This initial step was carried out in three phases: 1) the translation of the test, 2) the internal consistency study, that is, the calculation of the item-scale correlation of the English and the translated Turkish form of CPI, 3) the test-retest reliability of the translated Turkish form. In the translation phase, the original inventory was translated independently by three bilingual individuals. Then these three different translated forms were examined by two bilingual psyhologists and the best translation for each item was selected .. The final form was then re-checked by a bilingual psychologist whose undergraduate major was English language and literature. In the internal consistency phase the original test and the translated form were given to 50 bilingual students between the ages of sixteen and seventeen. The item-scale correlations of the Turkish and the English form were computed separately by using the point-biserial formula. In evalating the results Rpb of .27 which was significant at .05 level was chosen as a cutting point. The point biserial correlation coefficients of the items in the Turkish form were quite similar to the coefficients of the items in the English form. Dominance, Sociability, Sense of Well-Being and Communality Scales contained the highest, Achievement via Independence, Psychological Mindedness, Flexibility and Femininity Scales the lowest number of meaningful items. In the reliability study, the Turkish form was given twice with ten days time interval to twenty subjects aged between seventeen and twenty-seven. Pearson Moment Correlation Formula was used in computing test-retest reliability. The correlation coefficients ranged from .74 to .99 with a median correlation of .85. cpr has proven to be a valuable tool in counseling in its country of origin and the present study suggests that it can also be fruitful in its utilization in Turkey. Further research will be recommended on the Turkish form. Subsequent studies may concentrate on improving the individual scales of the test.
