Özet (Çeviri)
This paper takes an investigative look into the relationship that the United States and Turkey enjoy. The inter~ction between the two nations is broadly charted in the Cold War era as the relationship is seen to move from great intimacy to a“cooling off”period, back to a warmer working relationship. Then in the post-Cold War era, attention is given to the changed international political situation and the present foreign policy interests of both the U.S. and Turkey, considering where the two nation's interests coincide and where each country can help one other. After evaluating the present dynamics of the relationship, a look at what the prospects are for continued close ties between the two nations is taken. To help in the analysis of the U.S.-Turkish relationship-and the present and future conditions of that relationship, a useful case study is utilized. This case study is the“Armenian Resolution”, a piece of commemorative legislation that was brought before the U.S. Congress in 1987 and 1990. The purpose of the case study is to observe how the Turko-American relationship performed in the midst of an issue that was potentially of a divisive nature to the relationship. The merits of the Resolution are examined, but only to show that there was suffi~ient pressure brought to bear on the U.S. Congress to make the“Armenian Resolution”case study one that would yield a profitable investigation into the current strength of the U.S.-Turkish relationship. The case study provides a strong test to observe the working relationship that the U.S. and Turkey currently enjoy. The findings of the examination of the current geo-political situation, as it involves the United States and Turkey, and the“Armenian Resolution”case study yield the conclusion that the U.S.Turkish relationship is presently strong and most likely will continue to be strong into the future.
