This paper examines the present and future of the e-commerce, especially focusing on the usability and navigational problems of e-commerce web sites faced by both customers and businesses. After the Internet became very popular in commercial areas, it brought advantages together with problems related to usability, navigation, and technical issues. On the net, users' success depends not only on his/her skills, but also on the peopie that create the web sites with whatever he/she needs to find what he/she is seeking. The site tfaat is constructed may be esthetically appealing, technically perfect and filled with brillian! content. But what happerts to surfers if they cannot find the information they are looking for. The success of a web site is directly dependent on the degree of iti usaoility, wh.ich is derived from the abılity of the visitor to locate information, «Hhether or not fey know v.bat they aı-e looking for, or to understand the content and to execute the taslc* reçuired ir order to operate it efficıently. These taskş could be, for example, searching, downioadıng sofbvare or orderingpıoducts. Usability researchers focus on thingsthe user does not understand.“A low usability level web site is similar to a disorganized department store, in which you don't find what you need and end up leaving angry and frustrated, without having purchased a thing, determined never to return.”in this dissertation, I have tried to focus on usability problems of e-commerce web sites and on-line shopping systems. The broader aim of this paper is to encoı.rage research aimed for a set of usability methods and techniques appropriate for the development of e-commerce web sites that will help the users (customers) to easily navigate the site, locating the product or service without wasting to much time and effort. The number of popular web sites that are selling, promoting or advertising a product or service through the Internet have been analysed and usability problems are identified and listed. in conclusion, I have listed my solutions to the recent and probable future problems.
