This paper explores the impacts of the Kurdish problem on Turkey's Europeanization. It argues that the Kurdish issue is a significant obstacle for Turkey's Europeanization as well as democratization. The Kurdish problem is also crucial for Turkey's EU membership process. Turkey has been struggling to meet some EU criteria such as human rights and fully transparent and civilian regime. Therefore, resolution of the Kurdish issue is of key importance in terms of Turkey's future. This paper analyses the Europeanization and EU-ization processes of Turkey with regard to its Kurdish problem. The paper also reveals the effects of the Kurdish problem on Turkish foreign and domestic policy. Since the first half of the 1900s, the Kurdish issue has been the most important determinant of Turkish policy. This dissertation argues that the Turkish state should resolve the Kurdish problem in the light of Europeanization and EU-ization in order to assert Turkey's place in the Western world.
