198 Summary In this M. A. thesis, after presenting and discussing the word Shia with respectfto its morphology and its usage as a technical term in lenght; the conflict/friction that had arisen among the muslims for the first time, and the reasons for it, the birth of Shia, its sub-sects and their credal beliefs are the topics that are dealt with. In dealing with the shi'a's soundest hadith collection (four principles) and what is accepted as its compilars, the intention was to shed as much light as possible on the shi'a's understanding of hadith. In addition, we have tried to give information in the field of apochryphal hadith (fabricated traditions) by studying the works dealing with the fabricated traditions and the method that their compilors have adopted.. We have thought it as necessory to provide information on the sects and fractions in an illustrated manner and missionary activities that had fabricated hadith are moreover discussed. In addition, the concept of apochryphal hadith (mevzu hadis) have been defined and the factors that had led the fabrication of traditions are dealt with. By taking various Shi'ite and Sunni sources as the bases, the shi'ite role and the activities of its followers in the field of apochryphal hadith have been our goal to clarify further in this work. Moreover, for the sake of analogy we have considered that it will be proper to discuss in a comperative manner, even it concerely, the hadith methodologies of the Shi'ite and Sunni schools and their hadith classifications. Then, after presenting and discussing the Shi'ate's viewpoint concerning the prophetic traditions (hadith) we have thought that it will be proper to discuss the Shi'ate's view concerning the Koran and thus have dealt with it briefly. Finally Shi'a's contribution in the field of apochryphal hadith and the extent that this forgery reached have been discussed by selecting samples from various topics. The goal, in doing this, has been to clarify the subject matter further and to shed some light on the theoretical as well as the practical acpocts of the iscus under consideration.
