Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı, problem genişletme etkinliklerinin öğrencilerin problem çözme başarısına ve üstbiliş becerisine etkisinin incelenmesidir. Bu doğrultuda araştırma, ön test-son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen üzerine modellenmiştir. Araştırma, 2015-2016 eğitim öğretim yılının ikinci döneminde Rize İli Merkez İlçesi'nde bir ilkokulda, 31'i deney ve 30'u kontrol grubunda olmak üzere, toplam 61 öğrenci ile dokuz hafta boyunca yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada, deney grubunda yer alan öğrencilere problem genişletme etkinlikleri uygulaması yapılırken, kontrol grubunda yer alan öğrencilerin dersleri normal matematik müfredatına göre işlenmiştir. Araştırmada kullanılan veriler; Problem Çözme Başarı Testi ile Üstbilişsel Bilgi ve Beceri Ölçeği (MSA '98R) kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Verilerin normal dağılım kontrolü Kolmogorov-Smirnov testi ile yapılmıştır. Bağımlı iki grup ortalaması Eş-yapma t-testi (Paired t-test) ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde ve sonuçların yorumlanmasında %5 anlamlılık düzeyi dikkate alınmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, deney grubundaki öğrencilerin uygulama süreci sonunda hem problem çözme başarısında hem de üstbilişsel bilgi ve beceri düzeylerinde artış olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca bu artışın deney grubunda, kontrol grubuna oranla daha yüksek olduğu gözlenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, problem genişletme etkinliklerinin hem problem çözme başarısında hem de üstbiliş bilgi ve becerilerinde artış sağladığı gözlenmiştir.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of problem extending activities on problem-solving achievement and metacognitive skills. Accordingly, this research adopts the quasi-experimental design involving pretest-posttest control groups. The research was conducted with a total of 61 students assigned to the experimental group (31 students) and the control group (30 students) in a primary school located in Rize city center in the second term of 2015-2016 academic year over a nine-week period. During the research, while the problem extending activities were applied to the students in the experimental group, the students in the control group kept going their routine teaching and learning process. The data of the current study were obtained through Problem Solving Achievement Test and Inventory of Metacognitive Skills and Knowledge (MSA '98R). 'Kolmogorov-Smirnov' statistic was used to determine whether the data is normally distributed. The means of two dependent groups were compared with Paired t-test. A significance level of 5% was considered in the process of analyzing and interpreting the results. The findings of the research revealed that there was an increase in the level of both problem solving achievement and metacognitive knowledge and skills of the students in the experimental group at the end of the process. Furthermore, it was seen that this increase was higher than the one in the control group. According to the results obtained, problem extending activities were found to lead to an increase in the students' problem solving achievement and metacognitive knowledge and skills.
