Özet

Roma'nın krallıktan cumhuriyete ve ardından da imparatorluğa geçiş dönemlerinde kendini ortaya koyan dinamik kültürel ve manevî doku, sosyal ve politik arenada karmaşık ve iç içe toplumsal bir yapının inşâsını mümkün kılmıştır. Mevzubahis toplumsal yapının ve tezahürlerinin şekillendirdiği sivil kültler, imparatorluğu kriz ve kaos dönemlerinde sosyo-politik kimlik sorunlarının içine sokmuş olsa da,özellikle böyle“geçiş dönemleri”nde sivil olana ihtiyacı olduğu kültleri (inanç-pratik) sunmuştur. Sivil olanın açtığı bu“alan”, Hıristiyanlığın imparatorluğun“kamusal alan”ında iddia sahibi olacağı zamana kadar devam edecek; sonuçta dapolitik irade tarafından teslim alınarak-kabul edilinceye dek– imparatorluğu karşına alması ile sonuçlanacaktır. Başlangıç itibarı ile sivil olana talip olan ve bu eksende gelişen Hıristiyanlık, dönemin diğer sivil kültlerinin oluşturduğu“kolektif sosyal tekne”içinde varlığını kabul ettirebilecektir. Devrin diğer kültlerini çoğu zaman yadsısa da, sosyo-politik kriz dönemlerinde ortaya çıkan sosyo-psikolojik açıkları“kurtuluş”teolojisiyle terapi iddiasıyla değerlendiren Hıristiyanlık, zamanla tek başına bir“imparatorluk kültü”haline gelir.

Özet (Çeviri)

The dynamic cultural and spiritual fabric of the Roman Empire that set forth itself in the course of time from Rome's transition phases from kingdom to republican era, and, finally, to imperial stage made it possible to construct a complex and internal kind of structure in the social and political arena. Although the civil cults that shaped by the extant social structure and its manifestations put the Empire into the problems of socio-political identity in the periods of crisis and chaos, they provide the cults (creed-praxis) that the civil needs especially during the time of such“tumultuous transitions.”The sphere that opened by the“civic”will go on until Christianity demands claims in the“public/imperial sphere”of the Roman Empire; and eventually, ends up confrontation with the empire up until Christianity is accepted/taken over by the state. In its inception, Christianity claims the civil sphere and develops along this line; and it is conceived as such by people of the Roman Empire within the context of“collective social basin”formed by civic cults of the era under study. Despite the fact that Christianity was not at easy with the other civil cults of the era, it takes advantage of socio-psychological vacuums emerging in the time of socio-political crisis by using the theology of“soteriology”with the claim of creedal therapy; thus, it eventually became, by itself, the“imperial cult”of the era.
