Toplanan veriler CAN haberleşmesi yoluyla ana karta gönderilmektedir. CAN haberleşme hızı 500 Kb/sn olarak belirlenmiştir.

Green energy usage is becoming more and more important and necessary in today's world. For this reason, electric vehicles have become popular for the environment in terms of public transportation or personal transportation. In addition to electric vehicles, energy storage cabinets with batteries, solar panels, wind turbines, etc. emerges as renewable energy sources. In this type of energy sources, especially lithium-ion battery cells are used extensively for energy storage. In this thesis, battery-powered energy storage cabinet and battery management system algorithm design has been designed. In the thesis study, firstly, the features of the battery management system are stated. Battery powered energy storage systems were examined and detailed design stages were explained later. At the beginning of the thesis, the connection topology and type of the battery modules that will form the energy storage cabinet are determined. Battery cells have been studied in a wide range. The rechargeable batteries NiCd, Lead Acid, NiMh and Li-ion battery types were compared. Since lithium-ion batteries are very diverse, a review has been made among themselves. Comparison summary made then the BMS requirements heading. Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) was chosen as the battery cell type. The cells that forms the battery modules are connected in series. Nominal voltage of 8 Ah battery cells is 3.2Volt. The cells that forms the module are connected in series with each other using small bus bars. By leaving enough space between the cells, the temperature is prevented from rising to high temperatures. In some of the bus bars connecting the cells, sensors whose resistance values change with temperature are placed. In this way, the temperature values of the cells can be monitored. The energy storage system has a master board on which the master algorithm is run. The motherboard runs the battery management algorithm by processing the data it receives from slave cards. The charging and health status of the batteries, DC isolation control, contactor control, etc. are used with the algorithm run on the master board. transactions are carried out. The master board has the ability to monitor and control battery modules with a total voltage value of up to 1000 Volts. Besides, it can work with thirty slave cards. In the master board, over/under voltage and over current conditions are constantly checked as a result of current and voltage measurements. With the data received from temperature sensors, situations such as excessive temperature are also detected. The master board can monitor and control not only lithium iron phosphate but also battery types such as nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC), lithium manganese oxide (LMO) and lithium titanate oxide (LTO). After the master card and slave card tests were carried out, the energy storage cabinet was made ready in terms of hardware. After this stage, SOC and SOH prediction algorithms are designed and started to be run on the master card. In the energy storage cabinet, battery modules consisting of sixteen cells are connected together in series. Data are collected from each battery module via slave cards. The collected data is sent to the master card via CAN communication. The battery management system algorithm runs on the master card. The main tasks of the algorithm are control of slave cards, control of contactors, calculation of SOC and SOH parameters. In many sources, the current counting method is used to calculate the charge state. Since this method was not sufficient, model-based methods were used. In this thesis, GKF (Extended Kalman Filter) was used to estimate the state of charge. As a result of the literature research, it was seen that the GKF algorithm was mostly designed for a single battery cell. In this thesis, GKF algorithm has been designed for the module consisting of 16 battery cells. Current, temperature and voltage values of the battery modules are required to run the GKF algorithm on the master board. These data collected by slave cards and transmit to the master card via CAN. The CAN communication line installed in the energy storage cabinet starts with the master board and terminates on the master board again. As soon as the master card is turned on, it wakes up slave cards and assigns identification information to each slave card. After the credential assignment, each slave card became send data to the master card. CAN communication speed is determined as 500 Kbps and the hardware is isolated. Voltage differences occur between cells after the use of battery modules. Cells are balanced by slave cards. Because the active balancing method is costly and its design is more complicated, the passive balancing method was chosen. Passive balancing is performed by using battery monitoring IC by Texas Instruments. Balancing is started after the voltage level difference of the battery cells exceeds a pre determined value. Battery equivalent circuit model was determined before GKF algorithm was created. As a result of the insufficiency of circuit structures consisting of only resistance or only open circuit voltage, other models have been studied. Equivalent circuit models created with parallel RC branches connected in series with open circuit voltage and internal resistance are examined. First degree (1RC) and second degree (2RC) circuit models are simulated. Since the second order circuit model shows better performance, the second order model is used as equivalent circuit model in the GKF algorithm. Within the scope of the GKF algorithm requirements, the battery model was obtained by collecting current and voltage data from the battery module. Battery electrical equivalent model has been obtained to be used in GKF algorithm. HPPC (High Pulse Power Characterization) test was applied to the battery module to create the battery model, and the parameters of the battery model were obtained using time domain parameter extraction method. After the battery model was obtained, simulation studies of GKF algorithm were made. After observing the adequacy of the simulation results of the algorithm, it was coded in C language to be run on the master board. SOH (State of Health), the health status of battery cells will be calculated in the algorithm running on the master board. It is determined that any of the cells forming the battery modules reach discharge voltage before other cells. Once this cell detected, the currents passing over this cell until the full charge are collected. Capacity value of the battery cell is obtained by using the total current value. The ratio between the cell's capacity value after the fabrication and the new capacity value will give the cell health status. CAN communication infrastructure has been established for the DC / DC charger that will allow the battery modules to be charged. The charger inside the energy cabinet has been made controllable by the master board. Battery modules were charged and discharged after all controls were taken and safety precautions were taken. Algorithm results working on master board are exported and results are obtained. The energy storage cabinet has four modes. When the battery modules are not connected to the load or charger, the mode of the energy cabinet is idle. The energy storage cabin is in the charging mode while the batteries are charging, and in the discharge mode while discharging. Cell voltages, temperatures, current values are monitored in all modes of the energy cabinet. However, cell balancing is done only in idle mode. In the energy storage cabinet, the master board and DC / DC charger operate with 24V DC voltage. Voltage distribution is made from 24V DC source on the floor inside the cabinet. Slave cards provide their energy from the battery modules they are connected to. On one shelf of the energy storage system are fuses, contactors, current measurement modules and insulation measurement module. Contactors are controlled by the master board and are used to disconnect or connect the battery terminals to the load. Fuses are 40 amps. They are on duty to protect the battery modules in case of overcurrent or voltage. Fuses are located in both the positive and negative terminal. The pre-charging circuit is designed to safely fill the input capacity of the DC / DC charger on the load side of the batteries. The BMS has been tested after all design studies. Master cards and slave cards can fulfill their functional functions. The charge status of the battery modules in the BMS has been successfully estimated using the EKF algorithm. The charge status estimates obtained with the test results are estimated with an acceptable percentage error.
