Özet

Bir yüksek lisans tezi olarak hazırlanan bu çalışmada, Avrosepitisizm kavramının anlaşılması amacıyla literatürde yer alan tanımlar ışığında Britanya'da yükselen Avroseptik direncin açıklanması, Brexit'e giden süreçte UKIP'in yükselişi ve referandum kararı üzerindeki etkisi ele alınmıştır. Tez konusu olarak Avroseptisizm ve Britanya örneğinin ele alınması ve sürecin, Britanya'daki en sert Avroseptik Parti UKIP ile ilişkilendirilerek açıklanmaya çalışılması iki önemli nedenden ileri gelmektedir. Bunlardan ilki Brexit süreci ile yaşanan belirsizlik ve AB'nin geleceğine ilişkin kaygıların Avroseptisizm kavramının önemini artırarak akademik anlamada daha fazla incelenmesi ihtiyacını doğurmuş olmasıdır. Avroseptisizm kavramının doğum yeri olan Britanya'nın AB ile tarihsel Avroseptik ilişkisi bağlamında UKIP'in yükselişinin incelenmesi bugün Britanya'yı AB'yi terk etme aşamasına getiren sürecin anlaşılmasını mümkün kılar. Tez üç ana bölüm halinde yazılmıştır. Birinci bölümde Avroseptisizm kavramı literatürde yer alan tipolojiler ekseninde tanımlanmış, ikinci bölümde Britanya'da Eurseptisizm Britanya'nın AB ile olan tarihsel ilişkileri çerçevesinde ele alınmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde Britanya'yı Brexit'e götüren süreçte etkin bir aktör olan UKIP'in yükselişi ve sürece etkisi incelenmiştir. Tez genel olarak Britanya'yı AB'den çıkma aşamasına getiren nedenlerin Britanya'da siyasi parti, kamuoyu ve medyada başından beri var olan Avroseptik bir direncin sonucu olduğunu, bu süreçte yükselen UKIP'in sert Avroseptik propagandasının ülke içi siyasi dengeleri değiştiren bir unsur olarak belirmesinin Brexit'e giden süreçte belirleyici olduğunu savunur.

In this study, which is prepared as a master's thesis, the explanation of the rise of Eurosceptic resistance in the UK, the rise of UKIP in the process of leading Brexit and its impact on the referendum decision are discussed in order to understand the concept of Euroscepticism under the light of the definitions in the literature. The subject of the thesis: the consideration of Euroscepticism and the UK, and the process are explained by linking it with UKIP, the UK's harshest Eurosceptic party due to two important reasons. The first of these, uncertainties experienced with the Brexit process and the concerns about the future of the EU have increased the importance of Euroscepticism and thus necessitated further study in the academic field. The study of the rise of UKIP, in the context of the UK's historical Eurosceptic relation with the EU, the birthplace of the Euroscepticism, makes it possible to understand the process, which brought the UK to the stage of leaving the EU today. The thesis is written in three chapters. In this first chapter, Euroscepticism is defined in the axis of typologies in the literature. In the second chapter, British Euroscepticism is discussed within the framework of the historical relationship between the UK and the EU. In the third chapter, the rise and the effect of UKIP, which is an active actor in the process that leads the UK to Brexit is examined. The thesis generally argues that the reasons that brought the UK out of the EU are the result of the Eurosceptic resistance that has existed in the political party, public opinion and media, and that the Eurosceptic propaganda of the rising UKIP appearing to be a factor that changes domestic political balances is decisive in the process leading to Brexit.
