Özet
İki tekerlekte seyirlik imkânı sağlayan, insan gücüyle çalışan bisiklet yaklaşık 200 yıldır hayatımızdadır. Bisikletin icadı konusunda tarihçiler arasında bir fikir birliği yoktur. Bu bilgi çerçevesinde tek bir mucit tarafından icat edilmediğini de anlamaktayız. Tarihsel olarak bisikletin icat edilmesinin ardından Osmanlı topraklarına girdiği XIX. yüzyıl sonları ile yani 1880'li yıllar ile başlayacak ve Cumhuriyetin ilanına kadar olan sürece kadar 1920'lere getirilecektir. Bisikletin icadı ile Avrupa'da yayılışı, Osmanlı Devleti'ne gelişi, hangi alanlarda yaygınlık gösterdiği, bisikletin zaman içerisindeki değişim süreci, Seyyahların gezileri, bisikletin turizme katkıları, bisikletin kamusal alanda kullanımı, (posta, ordu ve emniyet teşkilatları içinde), Osmanlı'da bisikletin yaygın olarak kullanıldığı şehirler, ilk bisiklet yarışlarının nerede ve nasıl düzenlendiği, basında ve edebiyatta bisiklet konuları yer almaktadır. Zamanla birçok kitap ve karikatüre de konu olan bisiklet, mizah duygusuyla harmanlanarak, okuyucunun ilgisine sunulmuştur. Osmanlı'da bisikletle ilgili literatür tarandığında bu konunun çok fazla derinlemesine ele alınmadığı, genel olarak spor başlığı altında konuya yer verildiği görülmektedir. Osmanlı Devleti'nde bisikletin girişi, sadece spor alanında değil her alanda toplum ve devlet hayatına katkılarının geniş ve kapsamlı bir çalışma içinde incelenmesi gereği duyulmuştur. Bu amaç doğrultusunda bisikletin serüveni bir bütün olarak ele alınmıştır. Ayrıca konu içeriği itibariyle günlük yaşamın bir parçası olan bisikletin cemiyet ve devlet hayatında kullanımını içerdiğinden toplumsal tarih kuram ve yaklaşımları örnek alınmıştır.

The bicycle that operates on two wheels and works with human power has been in our lives for nearly 200 years. There is no consensus amongst historians about the invention of the bicycle. We also understand that this information is not invented by a single inventor. Historically, after the invention of the bike, XIX. It will start with the end of the century, that is, the 1880s, and will be brought up to the 1920s until the declaration of the Republic. With the invention of the bicycle, its spread in Europe, its arrival to the Ottoman State, its prevalence in which areas, the process of change of the bike in time, trips of the travelers, the contribution of the bike to tourism, the use of the bicycle in the public domain, (in postal, army and law enforcement agencies), in the Ottoman There are cities where cycling is widely used, where and how the first cycling races were organized, and cycling topics in the press and literature. The bicycle, which has been the subject of many books and cartoons over time, was blended with a sense of humor and presented to the attention of the reader. When the literature about cycling in Ottoman is scanned, it is seen that this issue is not dealt with in depth, and the subject is included under the heading of sports in general. The entrance of the bicycle in the Ottoman Empire, the contribution of society and state life in every field, not only in the field of sports, but also in a wide and comprehensive study was needed. For this purpose, the adventure of the bicycle has been handled as a whole. In addition, as the subject content includes the use of bicycle, which is a part of daily life, in society and public life, social history theories and approaches are taken as an example.
