Özet (Çeviri)
Microfiltration is one of the most efficient filtration techniques used to remove pathogenic protozoa, bacteria, and other colloidal matter from feed water. During the filtration process these pollutants accumulate on the filter surface and clog the membrane pores which results in decline of filtration productivity. One effective method to remove these attachments is a cleaning method called backwashing. While the backwashing operation clears away substantial amounts of foulant from the membrane surface, there are still residuals that cannot be removed by backwashing. This is known as irreversible attachment due to the presence of a biofilm. In this thesis, our main goal is to determine the backwashing timing to minimize the decline of permeability of the membrane. We validate our model against multiple data sets. First, we start our analysis with a basic point of view by ignoring the irreversible dynamics in our mathematical models in Chapter 3. Then, in Chapter 4 we incorporate biofilm dynamics into our mathematical models. Both in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 we find optimal solutions and compare these with our data sets. These observations provide insight into the effect of filter age and biological activity on the membrane behavior.
