In order to mitigate the risk of exposure to volatility in jet fuel prices, numerous airline firms use jet fuel price hedging strategy. The objective of this study is to determine whether jet fuel price hedging adds value to airline firms. The results of the study show that there is a positive and statistically significant relation between the value of the airline companies and hedging behaviour. The average hedging premium calculated for the sample of the study is found to be consistent with the results of the previous studies. The study also reveals that larger airline companies benefit more from jet fuel price hedging strategy when compared to low-cost carriers (LCCs), which is consistent with the findings of previous surveys regarding the use of derivatives in non-financial firms.
