The relationship between democracy and economic development has been an important question mark in social sciences. This paper explores whether democracy has an impact on the economic convergence of countries through the quality of institutions, which are measured as election and rule of law parameters. Based on our econometric estimations with three samples, all companies, Islamic and non-Islamic companies, we use OLS and 2SLS methodologies in our econometric analysis. I find that the election has a first-order effect on economic development and the same impact of institutions is not applicable for Islamic countries.
