SUMMARY It is well-known fact that el-Halil the son of Ahmed is the first person who founded the science of 'Aruz or the metre of Arab poetry, in such a way that he had analyzed internal structure of classical Arab poetry. Naturaly he used the system of rhythm in them and he put their melodic rhythm on the paper for any one who has not the ability of musical concept. He also put them in metrical measurements which enables us to get the poem in the original character. A lot of works in this field were written after el-Halil. But this works are almost the same in content but different in the method applied. Later generations tried to explain this subject in detail throughly. Our aim in this thesis is the tavsif or the characterization of such works thet exist in Lâleli Library ( which is one of the sections of Suleymaniye Library ). In this thesis, the works worked on where put in to order according to the date of each authers' death. We have given necessary information about every author just before each work what was characterized. These works have only been characterized; because, their contents are the same. We have not given information about contents for this reason. However, we tried to inform the reader concerning 'Aruz or“ the metre of prosody ”in general.
