Özet
Bu çalışmada İbn Rüşd'ün (ö. 595/1198) nefs anlayışı, hem teorik temelleri hem de tarihsel bağlamı içerisinde hazırlanmıştır. İbn Rüşd'ün psikoloji anlayışının merkezinde yer alan nefs kavramı, epistemoloji, ahlak, metafizik ve biyolojiyle doğrudan ilişkilidir. Çalışmanın amacı, İbn Rüşd'ün nefs teorisini ortaya koymak ve onun düşünce gelenekleri içerisindeki yerini belirlemektir. Çalışmada öncelikle Greklerden günümüze nefs kavramının nasıl ele alındığı incelenmiştir. Ardından İbn Rüşd'ün hayatı ve eserleri tanıtılarak nefs ilminin yeri, yöntemi, tanımı ve mahiyeti ele alınmıştır. Nefsin güçleri sistematik biçimde analiz edilerek filozofun nefs-beden ilişkisi, nefsin ölümsüzlüğü ve ölüm sonrası durumu hakkındaki görüşleri değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda elde edilen bulgular, İbn Rüşd'ün nefs nazariyesinin Aristotelesçi çerçevede şekillendiğini, ancak İslam düşüncesinin metafizik boyutlarıyla da özgünleştiğini göstermektedir. Özellikle filozofun aklın işleyişine dair getirdiği açıklamalar, nefsin epistemolojik boyutunu açıklayan bir sistem ortaya koymaktadır. Bireysel ölümsüzlük konusundaki yaklaşımı ise felsefi temelli ancak dini bağlamı da içine alacak dengeli bir tutum göstermektedir. İbn Rüşd'ün nefs anlayışını ortaya koyan bu çalışmanın İslam felsefesi literatürüne katkı sunması temenni edilmektedir.

In this study, Ibn Rushd's (d. 595/1198) understanding of the soul is examined both in its theoretical foundations and within its historical context. The concept of the soul, which lies at the center of Ibn Rushd's psychology, is directly related to epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, and biology. The aim of this study is to present Ibn Rushd's theory of the soul and to determine its place within the traditions of thought. The study first explores how the concept of the soul has been treated from the Greeks to the present. Subsequently, Ibn Rushd's life and works are introduced, followed by an examination of the place, method, definition, and nature of the science of the soul. The faculties of the soul are systematically analyzed, and the philosopher's views on the soul-body relationship, the immortality of the soul, and its state after death are evaluated. The findings reveal that Ibn Rushd's theory of the soul is shaped within an Aristotelian framework, yet becomes distinctive through the metaphysical dimensions of Islamic thought. In particular, his explanations concerning the operation of the intellect establish a system that clarifies the epistemological dimension of the soul. His approach to individual immortality demonstrates a philosophically grounded yet balanced attitude that also incorporates the religious context. It is hoped that this study, by presenting Ibn Rushd's understanding of the soul, will contribute to the literature on Islamic philosophy.
