Humanity's effort to understand itself and the world largely occurs through concepts. However, these concepts are not independent of the historical and cultural context in which they emerged; on the contrary, they bear the traces of the intellectual and social conditions in which they were born. Changing historical conditions over time can lead to the narrowing of the meaning fields of some concepts and their use in different ways, detached from their original contexts. For this reason, philosophical thought seeks to make their meaning fields visible again by examining the origins of concepts, their historical contexts, and the transformations they have undergone. This study examines the historical transformation of the concepts of“truth,”“human,”“myth,”and“logos”within the framework of the semantic narrowing problem produced by the positivist/scientist understanding of truth, which established science as the sole legitimate criterion of truth in the modern era. In this context, the widespread interpretation of the mythos–logos relationship as a linear transition from the irrational to the rational is problematized, and mythos is evaluated not only as a set of false beliefs but also as a form of meaning-making that carries social norms, cosmic order conceptions, and ethical orientations. Readings of Plato and Aristotle's texts reveal that myth is not simply the opposite of logos; it functions as a narrative and a form of meaning production that accompanies the workings of thought, particularly in ethical and pedagogical contexts. In the modern era, the gradual reduction of truth to a single epistemic model based on verifiability, measurability, and utility weakens the public legitimacy of truth's ethical, existential, and symbolic dimensions. Consequently, a narrowing occurs in the semantic fields of foundational concepts such as“truth,”“human,”“myth,”and“logos.”This situation also reinforces the reduction of the relationship between myth and logos to an irrational–rational opposition. Within this framework, myth and logos are reevaluated not as two opposing modes of thought that exclude each other, but as a regime of meaning that operates together, with their respective weights shifting according to historical conditions.
