Özet
Bu tez çalışması, literatürde genellikle mimari yapılarla sınırlı kalan“ikoniklik”tartışmalarını peyzaj mimarlığı perspektifiyle genişleterek; kentsel parkların simgesel değer üretimindeki rolünü incelemektedir. İkoniklik, bu çalışma kapsamında yalnızca görsel bir çarpıcılık değil; kentin görsel hiyerarşisinde baskınlık kuran, toplumsal bellek ile eklemlenen ve kentsel kimliği temsil etme gücüne sahip çok katmanlı bir olgu olarak ele alınmaktadır. Araştırma; bu kavramı estetik niteliklerin ötesinde mekânsal aidiyet, kültürel temsiliyet ve“tasarlanmış doğa”kavramları çerçevesinde kuramsal bir temele oturtmaktadır. Çalışmanın metodolojisi, literatür taramasıyla saptanan ikoniklik parametrelerinin uygulama sürecinde test edilmesine dayanmaktadır. Bu kapsamda, ulusal ve uluslararası ölçekte belirlenen ikonik kentsel mekânlar için fotoğraf temelli kullanıcı algı anketleri uygulanmış ve elde edilen veriler t-testi başta olmak üzere çeşitli istatistiksel yöntemlerle analiz edilmiştir. İstatistiksel analizler sonucunda kesinleşen belirleyici kriterler temel alınarak, seçilen tüm mekânların tasarım ve algı odaklı detaylı analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular, parkların ikonik değerinin yalnızca fiziksel formla değil; dijital medya temsilleri, kolektif hafıza ve tasarlanmış boşluk kurgusunun yarattığı algısal etkiyle şekillendiğini kanıtlamaktadır. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma, kentsel parkların birer“kent ikonu”olarak önemini ortaya koyarak peyzaj mimarlığı literatürüne kuramsal ve istatistiksel verilerle desteklenmiş özgün bir katkı sunmaktadır.

This thesis expands the discussions on“iconicity,”which are generally limited to architectural structures in the literature, by broadening them from the perspective of landscape architecture; it examines the role of urban parks in the production of symbolic value. Iconicity, within the scope of this study, is not only considered as visual strikingness; it is approached as a multi-layered phenomenon that establishes dominance in the visual hierarchy of the city, is intertwined with social memory, and has the power to represent urban identity. The research establishes this concept on a theoretical basis beyond aesthetic qualities, within the framework of spatial belonging, cultural representation, and the concept of“designed nature.”The methodology of the study is based on testing the parameters of iconicity identified through literature review during the application process. In this context, photo-based user perception surveys were conducted for iconic urban spaces identified at the national and international levels, and the data obtained were analyzed using various statistical methods, primarily the t-test. Detailed design and perception-focused analyses of all selected spaces were conducted based on the decisive criteria established through statistical analysis. The findings demonstrate that the iconic value of parks is shaped not only by their physical form but also by the perceptual impact created by digital media representations, collective memory, and the design of empty space. Consequently, this study highlights the importance of urban parks as“city icons”and offers a unique contribution to the landscape architecture literature, supported by theoretical and statistical data.
