Özet
Bu çalışma, Millî Mücadele Dönemi'nin şehir ölçeğindeki en uzun ve en yıpratıcı savunmalarından biri olan Antep Savunması'na ilişkin Türkçe kaleme alınmış hatıratları değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Tezin temel amacı, Antep Savunması literatüründe genellikle askerî safhalar ve cephe hareketleri etrafında şekillenen hâkim anlatının ötesine geçerek savunmanın gündelik hayat, cephe gerisi, moral ve motivasyon boyutlarını görünür kılmaktır. Bu doğrultuda, Antep Savunması'na ilişkin Türkçe hatıratlar ilk kez müstakil ve sistematik bir akademik incelemeye tâbi tutulmuştur. Hatıratlar yalnızca içerikleri bakımından değil; üretim biçimleri, yazılma nedenleri ve metinlere yapılan müdahale düzeyleri dikkate alınarak değerlendirilmiştir. Bu kapsamda, Antep Savunması'na ilişkin Türkçe hatıratlar; müellif tarafından kaleme alınan metinler, sözlü anlatım veya röportaj yoluyla kayda geçirilen anlatılar ve üçüncü şahısların müdahalesiyle şekillenen metinler olmak üzere üç ana kategoride tasnif edilmiştir. Bu tasnif, hatıratların tarihsel değerinin ve anlatı niteliğinin daha sağlıklı biçimde okunmasına imkân tanımıştır. Tezde ayrıca İngiliz, Fransız ve Ermeni unsurlara yönelik düşman algısının hatıratlar üzerinden nasıl inşa edildiği, bu algının zaman içinde hangi katmanlar üzerinden derinleştiği incelenmiştir. Bunun yanında, iaşe sorunları, kadınlar ve çocukların gündelik hayattaki rolleri ile cephe gerisinde şekillenen toplumsal seferberlik pratikleri ele alınmıştır. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma, Antep Savunması'nı yalnızca askerî bir direniş olarak değil, bir toplumsal tecrübe olarak değerlendirmeyi hedeflemektedir.

This study aims to examine Turkish-language memoirs related to the Defense of Antep, one of the longest and most arduous urban defenses of the National Struggle period. The principal objective of the thesis is to move beyond the dominant narrative in the existing literature on the Defense of Antep, which has largely been shaped around military phases and frontline operations, and to render visible the dimensions of everyday life, the home front, morale, and motivation during the defense. In this context, Turkish memoirs on the Defense of Antep are subjected, for the first time, to a distinct and systematic academic analysis. The memoirs are evaluated not only in terms of their content but also with regard to their modes of production, the motivations behind their composition, and the degree of intervention involved in their formation. Accordingly, Turkish memoirs on the Defense of Antep are classified into three main categories: texts written directly by their authors, narratives recorded through oral accounts or interviews, and accounts shaped through the intervention of third parties. This classification enables a more nuanced and reliable reading of both the historical value and the narrative character of the memoirs. The thesis further analyzes how perceptions of the enemy -specifically toward British, French, and Armenian actors- were constructed through these memoirs and how such perceptions deepened over time through different layers. In addition, issues of provisioning, the roles of women and children in everyday life, and the forms of social mobilization that emerged on the home front are examined in detail. Ultimately, this study seeks to interpret the Defense of Antep not merely as a military resistance but as a social experience.
