Özet
Bu tez, Osmanlı saray müziği geleneği içerisinde tanburun tarihsel gelişimini, estetik işlevini ve kültürel önemini incelemektedir. Osmanlı müzik anlayışının kurumsal ve toplumsal temelleri çerçevesinde tanburun saray ortamındaki konumu ele alınmış; çalgının kökenleri, biçimsel özellikleri ve makam müziği içerisindeki rolü değerlendirilmiştir. Tanbur icra geleneğinin oluşumunda etkili olan tanburîlerin sanatsal yaklaşımları ve müzik tarihine katkıları analiz edilerek, tanburun hem icracı hem de eğitici bir çalgı olarak üstlendiği işlevler ortaya konmuştur. Ayrıca tanburun teknik yapısı, repertuvar içindeki fonksiyonu ve estetik değeri üzerinde durulmuştur. Çalışmada, Cumhuriyet dönemi sonrası süreçte tanburun geçirdiği dönüşüm, günümüzdeki icra ve eğitim pratikleri ile klasik Türk müziği ve çağdaş müzik projelerindeki yeri değerlendirilmiştir. Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi ve betimsel analiz teknikleri kullanılarak veriler toplanmış ve çözümlenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, tanburun sadece tarihsel bir çalgı değil, aynı zamanda kültürel devamlılığın güçlü bir simgesi olduğunu göstermektedir. Tanburun gelenekten geleceğe uzanan bu yolculuğu hem müzikal mirasın korunmasında hem de çağdaş yorumların gelişmesinde önemli bir rol oynamaktadır.

This thesis examines the historical development, aesthetic function, and cultural significance of the tanbur within the tradition of Ottoman court music. Within the framework of the institutional and social foundations of Ottoman musical culture, the position of the tanbur in the court environment is discussed, and the instrument's origins, structural characteristics, and role within the makam music system are evaluated. By analyzing the artistic approaches of prominent tanbur players who contributed to the formation of the tanbur performance tradition, the study reveals the functions undertaken by the tanbur as both a performance and an educational instrument. In addition, the technical structure of the tanbur, its function within the repertoire, and its aesthetic value are examined. The study also addresses the transformation of the tanbur in the post-Republican period, as well as its place in contemporary performance and educational practices, classical Turkish music, and modern musical projects. Data were collected and analyzed using qualitative research methods, specifically document analysis and descriptive analysis. The findings indicate that the tanbur is not merely a historical instrument but also a powerful symbol of cultural continuity. This journey of the tanbur from tradition to the present plays an important role in both the preservation of musical heritage and the development of contemporary interpretations.
