The seismotectonic evolution of the Aegean region and Western Anatolia (Türkiye) is governed by deep lithological heterogeneities and a segmented, blocky structure rather than a simple, homogeneous crustal thinning process. Seismological evidence indicates that variations in crustal thickness and seismic velocity ratios directly reflect the complex geodynamic processes and the distinctive characteristics of regional tectonic units. This highlights that the region possesses a heterogeneous crustal framework shaped by multi-layered tectonic interactions, transcending a straightforward extensional regime. Within the scope of this thesis, receiver function analysis was performed across an extensive domain encompassing Western Anatolia, the Aegean Sea, and the Greek mainland and the Aegean islands. The results demonstrate that the Moho depth shallows to approximately 23 km along the Aegean coasts, the Central Aegean, and active graben systems. In contrast, crustal thickness reaches 41 km toward the interior of Southwestern Anatolia and 39 km beneath Crete in the southwestern sector of the study area. In the subsequent phase of the study, a 1-D seismic velocity model was derived based on these parameters and validated through travel-time vs. distance regression analysis of 1300 local earthquakes. Regional seismic velocity values derived from seismic arrival times demonstrate consistency with receiver function results, thereby validating the region's heterogeneous crustal structure and upper mantle character through the dataset compiled from the DEUNET network. Consequently, the integration of these structural and seismological findings provides significant contributions to a more holistic understanding of the seismotectonic framework and the crust-mantle boundary geometry of Türkiye and the Aegean regions.
