Özet
Bu çalışma, antik Yunan'dan bugüne tiyatro ile teknoloji arasındaki iç içe geçmiş ilişkiyi, tarihsel, kuramsal ve uygulamalı açılardan ele almayı amaçlamaktadır. Tiyatro tarihinde sahne düzeneklerinden dijital projeksiyonlara varan teknolojik evrim, sadece pratik bir destek olmanın çok ötesine geçmiş; sahne estetiğini, oyun yapısını ve seyirci yaşantısını kökten değiştirmiştir. Birinci bölümde antik Yunan'daki makine sisteminden Sanayi Devrimi sonrası ışık, ses ve projeksiyon gibi yeniliklere uzanan tarihsel çizgi izlenirken, bu araçların tiyatroya açtığı yeni ifade kapıları tartışılmıştır. İkinci bölüm ise 21. yüzyıl reji pratiğinin dönüşümüne ve bunu besleyen kuramsal zemine odaklanır. Burada yönetmenin geleneksel“metin yorumcusu”kimliğinden“mekân-imge mimarı”na evrilmesi; disiplinlerarası etkileşimlerin doğurduğu yeni seyirci deneyimleri, somut örneklerle irdelenir. Uygulama ve analiz ağırlıklı üçüncü bölümde, çağdaş tiyatronun kilit figürlerinden Robert Lepage'ın Ex Machina atölyesindeki kolektif üretim süreci mercek altına alınır. Bunun perspektifinde Türkiye'deki teknolojik ve dijital anlatıyı temeline alan oyunlar da incelenir. Bölümün sonuna doğru Katie Mitchell'ın“Live Cinema”tekniği, canlı sinema ile tiyatronun kesişimini güncel bir örnek olarak masaya yatırır. Sonuç olarak bu tez, teknolojinin tiyatroda salt bir“araç”olmadığını, aksine yeni bir anlatı biçimi ve estetik ufuk açtığını; Lepage ile Mitchell'in pratiklerinden yola çıkarak gösterir.

This study aims to examine the intertwined relationship between theater and technology from ancient Greece to the present day from historical, theoretical, and practical perspectives. The technological evolution in theater history—ranging from stage mechanisms to digital projections—has gone far beyond serving merely as a practical aid; it has fundamentally transformed stage aesthetics, play structure, and the audience experience. The first chapter traces the historical trajectory from the mechanical systems of ancient Greece to post-Industrial Revolution innovations such as lighting, sound, and projection, while discussing the new avenues of expression these tools have opened up for theater. The second chapter focuses on the transformation of 21st-century directing practice and the theoretical foundations underpinning it. Here, the director's evolution from the traditional role of“text interpreter”to that of“space-image architect,”along with the new audience experiences born from interdisciplinary interactions, are examined through concrete examples. In the third section, which emphasizes practice and analysis, the collective production process at Robert Lepage's Ex Machina workshop—one of contemporary theater's key figures—is examined under the microscope. Within this framework, plays in Turkey that are grounded in technological and digital narratives are also analyzed. Toward the end of the chapter, Katie Mitchell's“Live Cinema”technique is examined as a contemporary example of the intersection between live cinema and theater. In conclusion, this thesis demonstrates—drawing on the practices of Lepage and Mitchell—that technology is not merely a“tool”in theater, but rather opens up new narrative forms and aesthetic horizons.
