Özet
Bu çalışmada“Kilise Doktoru”ünvanının ortaya çıkışı, tarihsel gelişimi, verilme ölçütleri, ilan süreci ve Katolik Kilisesi içerisindeki yeri incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın temel amacı,“Kilise Doktoru”ünvanının tarihsel gelişimini ve kurumsal niteliğini ortaya koymak; ünvanın verilmesinde esas alınan ölçütleri, ilan sürecini ve Katolik Kilisesi'nin konuya yaklaşımını değerlendirmektir. Belirtilen amaç doğrultusunda Kilise Doktoru ünvanının Hıristiyanlık geleneğindeki öğretici otorite anlayışıyla ilişkisi,“Kilise Babası”ünvanı ve azizlik kurumu ile bağlantısı ele alınmıştır. Gerekli görülen konularda Ortodoks ve Protestan gelenekleriyle karşılaştırmalara yer verilmiştir. Ayrıca“Kilise Doktoru”ilan edilen şahsiyetler, onların yaşadıkları dönemler ve“Kilise Doktoru”ilan süreçleri incelenmiş; ünvanın tarihsel gelişimi ile uygulanışındaki değişim ve süreklilik değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma, nitel araştırma yöntemi çerçevesinde tarihsel, betimleyici ve karşılaştırmalı yöntemlerden yararlanılarak yürütülmüş; papalık belgeleri, resmî Kilise dokümanları ve temel Hıristiyanlık kaynakları ise hermenötik yaklaşımla incelenmiştir. Elde edilen veriler ilgili akademik literatür doğrultusunda değerlendirilmiştir. İnceleme sonucunda“Kilise Doktoru”ünvanının belirli bir ruhban makamıyla sınırlı olmadığı, yalnızca bireysel ilmî çalışmalar esas alınarak verilmediği ve ünvanın tanınma sürecinde Kilise tarafından belirlenen ölçütlerin kurumsal değerlendirme mekanizması içerisinde ele alındığı tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma ayrıca ünvanın tarihsel gelişiminde yalnızca teolojik ölçütlerin değil; tarihsel bağlamın, Kilise'nin kurumsal yapısının ve dönemin şartlarının da değerlendirme sürecine yansıdığını ortaya koymuştur.

This study examines the origin, historical development, criteria for conferment, declaration process, and place of the title“Doctor of the Church”within the Catholic Church. The primary aim of the study is to reveal the historical development and institutional nature of the title“Doctor of the Church”and to evaluate the criteria for its conferment, the declaration process, and the Catholic Church's approach to the subject. In line with this objective, the relationship between the title“Doctor of the Church”and the understanding of teaching authority in the Christian tradition, as well as its connection with the title“Church Father”and the institution of sainthood, is examined. Where necessary, comparisons are made with the Orthodox and Protestant traditions. In addition, individuals declared“Doctors of the Church,”the historical periods in which they lived, and the processes through which they were declared“Doctors of the Church”are examined in order to evaluate the historical development of the title together with the changes and continuity in its application. The study was conducted within the framework of qualitative research using historical, descriptive, and comparative methods. Papal documents, official Church documents, and primary Christian sources were examined through a hermeneutical approach. The data obtained were evaluated in light of the relevant academic literature. The findings indicate that the title“Doctor of the Church”is not restricted to a particular ecclesiastical office, is not conferred solely on the basis of individual scholarly achievements, and is granted through an institutional evaluation process based on the criteria established by the Catholic Church. The study further demonstrates that, in addition to theological criteria, the historical context, the institutional structure of the Church, and the conditions of the period were also reflected in the process of conferring the title.
