IV ÖZET GAZİANTEP ÜNİVERSİTESİ YABANCI DİLLER BOLÜMÜ OKUTMANLARININ HİZMET İÇİ ÖĞRETMEN EĞİTİM PROGRAMLARI İHTİYAÇ DEĞERLENDİRMESİ KERVANCIOĞLU, F. Şule Yüksek Lisans Tezi : İngiliz Dili Eğitimi Tez Yöneticisi : Yrd. Doç. Dr. Atanur VERGİLİ Temmuz, 2001, 99 sayfa Bu çalışmanın amacı Gaziantep Üniversitesi Yabancı Diller Bölümü okutmanlarının hizmet içi öğretmen eğitim programları ihtiyaç değerlendirmesini araştırmaktır. Bu araştırmaya 30 okutman ve 188 öğrenci katılmıştır. Bu iki gruba uygulanan anketlerle veriler toplanmıştır ve araştırma sorularına yanıtlar aranmıştır. Araştırmada yanıt aranan ilk temel soru okutmanların hizmet içi öğretmen eğitim programlan hakkında genel görüşlerinin ne olduğudur. Okutmanlardan alman cevapların frekans dağılımları ve yüzdeleri hesaplanmıştır. Bu sonuçlara göre okutmanların % 90'ı hizmet içi öğretmen eğitim programına katılmak istemekte ve bu programların uygulanmasına olumlu yaklaşım sergilemektedirler.İkinci araştırma sorusu, okutmanların mesleki yeterlik seviyeleri ile ilgili öğretmen öğrenci görüşleri arasında fark olup olmadığıdır. Veriler t-testi ve x2 (chi kare) uygulanarak analiz edilmiştir. T-testi ve x2 sınamaları birbirini destekleyici sonuçlar vermiş ve iki grup arasında istatiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmıştır. Mesleki yeterlik konusunda öğretmenler öğrencilere göre kendilerini daha yeterli görmektedirler. Öğretmen ve öğrenci görüşleri dikkate alınarak okutmanların mesleki yeterlikle ilgili ihtiyaçları değerlendirilmiştir.Buna göre aşağıda belirtilen konularda öğrenciler öğretmenlerin yeterli olmadığını belirtmişlerdir. Okutmanların bu ihtiyaçlarını karşılamaları ve kendilerini bu konularda geliştirmeleri için hizmet içi eğitim program modeli geliştirilebilir. 1 - Okuma becerisini öğretme, 2- Konuşma becerisini öğretme, 3- Görsel ve işitsel araçları kullanma, 4- Soru ve cevap tekniğini kullanma, 5- Rol yapma aktivitesini kullanma, 6- Gramer oyunlarından yararlanarak öğretme, 7- Aktivitelerin amacını öğrenciye açıklama, 8- Açıklamaları açık ve net bir şekilde yapma, 9- Farklı materyaller kullanma, 1 0- Yeni konuya başlamadan önce bir öncekini tekrar etme, ©©ISÜMANTASYOM MEWffiSSVI 1 1 - Öğrenciyi derse motive etme, 1 2- Öğrencilerin bireysel farklılıklarını dikkate alma, 13- Verilen ödevleri inceleyip değerlendirme, 14- Her öğrenci ile bire bir ilgilenme, 1 5- İngilizce'yi akıcı bir şekilde konuşma, 1 6- Öğrencilerin sorularına yapıcı yaklaşma.

ABSTRACT AN IN-SERVICE TEACHER TRAINING NEEDS ASSESSMENT OF THE INSTRUCTORS OF ENGLISH AT THE DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES OF GAZİANTEP UNIVERSITY By F. Şule KERVANCIO?LU MA Degree of English Language Teaching Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. Atanur VERGİLİ July, 2001, 99 pages The purpose of this study is to investigate the in-service teacher training needs assessment of the instructors of English at the Department of Foreign Languages of Gaziantep University. The subjects of the study were the instructors and students of the aforementioned institution. Necessary data was gathered through the administration of the questionnaires to two groups. 30 instructors and 188 students responded the survey. Two main research questions were asked. The first research question on which the research was based was what the general opinions of the instructors regarding in-service teacher training programswere. The data was analysed using the frequency distributions and percentages. The results indicated that 90% of the instructors would like to have an in-service teacher training program and they have positive opinions regarding in-service teacher training programs. The second question investigated was if there were any significant differences in the perceptions of the instructors of English and the preparatory school students concerning the competency levels of the instructors at various aspects of teaching. The data was analysed by utilizing t-test and chi-square. The results of the t-test confirmed chi-square results. The findings showed that there were statistically significant differences between the perceptions of the instructors and the students. Instructors feel themselves more competent at various aspects of teaching. Taking into consideration students and instructors ratings, needs of the instructors regarding professional competencies were assessed. In the following aspects instructors were not found competent enough by the students. In order to meet the instructors' needs, and provide an opportunity for their professional development, a specific in-service teacher-training program can be developed. 1. Teaching reading skills 2. Teaching speaking skills. 3. Using audio - visual aids. 4. Using question and answer technique.Ill 5. Using role - play activities. 6. Using grammar games at teaching. 7. Telling the students the objectives of each teaching activity. 8. Giving clear instructions. 9. Using a variety of materials. 10. Revising the previous structure before presenting a new one. 1 1. Motivating the students. 1 2. Taking into consideration the individual differences of the students. 13. Checking and evaluating written assignments. 14. Showing an interest in every student. 15. Speaking English fluently. 16. Responding to the questions of the students in a helpful way.
