ABSTRACT Omar b. Abdulaziz who is known as one of the greatest figures throughout Islamic History, reached at the highest place from the point of Islamic understanding and seemed as a renewer in Islamic Society. His period was an era in which the renewing and change. Moreover, he was a sample for all generations as a Caliph. Contrary to the general attitudes of his period, Omar b. Abdulaziz established a deep cultural life. First of all, he helped to collect the sayings of the Holy Prophet. Then, by his economical practices, the economical life became so well that no one was found was to be given zakah. He is said to resemble to his grandfather Caliph Omar from the point of practicing justice and to Imam Zuhri from the point of wisdom. He worked for people to lead a life according to the sake of Allah and invited them to fear Him. He always advised his staff to fearfrom Him. For doing so, he sent letters to governors.and some ofthe governors stopped working and used to travel land to land. The reason for Omar b. Abdulaziz's being called the 5th Caliph was his faith, his fear of God and his determining everything according to God's limits. He is said to be the renewe ofthe first century A.H. His Act of Zuhd wasappeared contraversary to the Umayyeds but was accepted by the public. As an individual, he became a sample for the later generations by his zuhd life and had a deep impact on them. Omar b. Abdulaziz said that the only guide for all occasions is The Holy Prophet Himself and practicised this motto in His own life. In his period there wasno harrasment to Ehl-i Beyt (The relatives of the Prophet), no taxes weretaken from non-muslims. He did his best for public to reach happiness. 113
