- 44 t ABSTRACT This thesis consists nf four chapters and aims at displaying various approaches to the subject of logic which farms the foundation of mathematics.... -...__. The -first chapter is given over to information about, the.nation of logic and the structure of mathematics. This takes the form of a summary of the historical development of the subject, and is included because it provides a basis far the study of logic. An introduction ta set theory is given in the second chapter as a prerequisite to the introduction of fuzzy sets -The basic operations on fuzzy sets are also included in this chapter. Fuzzy logic is introduced in chapter three as an extension of symbolic and multi-valued logics, and follows a short introduction to these logics. The fourth and final chapter discusses an application of fuzzy logic to FRIL,a Mggpj level computer language aimed at the analysis of inexact situations.
