Özet (Çeviri)

-75- VII- SUMMARY The whole of the necklaces and the "bracelets dug out in Mardin region belonging to the period 3000 B.C. are the unpublished pieces found out during the excavations performed under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hayat Erkanal in Girnavaz, a place in Nusaybin the town of Mardin. The ornament from Girnavaz can be listed as : 1236 beads and 3 5 pendants made of metals and of naturel or artifical materials, 3 hair-rings of massive silver and 2 bracelets of massive bronze. A great part of these ornaments has been dug out in the northeastern terace of the excavation in the years 1988-1989, in an area used for burials during the age from the architectural layers found in the same area. The ornaments which date back to the Middle Paleolithic Age, started to increase in number and variety especially since the Protohistoric Ages, and became an industry of its own thus reaching to day. Ornaments as a group of excavated objectes, however are of no vital function as far as the dating of them is concerned.Compari- sons between these objects of various ages show us that we can hardly find any certain type or model which can characterize a cer tain period. In order to be dated accurately, the ornaments should have been dug up right in these very layers where they originally existed. Regarding the period from Uruk Age to the end of the Age of Early Dynastic III, when compared with those of Mesopotamian, Syrian, Anatolian, Palestinean and Iranian excavations, ornaments from Girnavaz show no great difference as far as their types, the materials and the techniques used in production are concerned. When the kind of the material used is considered, we can drow the conclu sion that Girnavaz, at least during the period of Early Dynastic III, had a bussy traffic with Mesopotamia in terms of commerce. This thesis is an early evaluation about the ornaments from Girnavaz. The presentation of a more accurate data requires further steps in excavations plus the substance-analysis of the pieces.
