SUMMARY Purpose of this research is to determine the knowledge required for the parents related to the elemantary school and their children, the ways they acquire this infor mation and the rate of attendance and further, responsibility of the school for increasing the knowledge of the parents. Basic problem of the research: What is the knowledge of the parents in relation to the school and the children and from which sources do they acquire this knowledge? In the accomplishment of the research“description”procedure has been used. It can be refeered to as“school survey”and“interview survey”from, the standpunt of research environment and output collection, respectively. Involved in the research are approximately 670 parents, director of the school, two assistant directores to the director and the teachers of Dutluk Elemantary School in Mamak, Ankara. Involved in the sampling were the parents, manager and teachers of the subject elementary school. Consequently, sampling was composed of 470 parents, one director, two assistants to the director and 38 teachers. Outputs were compiled through an interview developed by the person conducting the research. Included in the interview were 6 data groups and 40 information items in these groups. 106107 o In the analysis of the outputs, percentages and X were used. Following are the findings of the statistical analysis. 1. According to the positions of the specialist and related groups (teacher of the elementary school, director of the elementary school, elementary school inspector and the parents), information that should be gained by the parents of the school“were incorporated in the six groups and included in these groups included in these groups”were totally 40 information areas. 2. All parents were partially able to answer the information area and the items contained in these information areas which they were required to know in relation to the school and their children. Further, it was determined that the information items that the parents hald knowledge about were more than the ones that they did not know. 3. There was no difference between the knowledge levels of the parents according to their sexes as men and women, in relation to the school and their children. 4. Frequency of visiting the school in a training and instruction year by the parents, according to their sexes, for inquiring information pertinent to“school and the child”were considered to beinadequate. Frequency of visiting the school in a training and instruction year by the parents according to their sexes, for gathering i'nfro- mation on the school and their children were analysed and as a result there was no relation in between the outputs.108 5. The tools that the parents made most use of in gaining knowledge about the school and their children was the meeting öf the parents and the least was the T.V. No benefit was derived from the radio and the newspapers. According to the results of the reseacrh outputs, it can be concluded that the parents are lacking knowledge in relation to school and their children. In the same manner, they are not interested in the problems covering school and the children. It can be concluded according to the results of the research that a necessity has arisen for the authorities concerned to take the necessary measures in time by taking into consideration the knowledge levels of the parents in relation to school and their children and also the problems related to school and their children. As an exampel to this situation, parents meetings oriented to training without financial considerations and environment as such to enable the parents to make discussions with personnel of the school could be rendered possible.
