Özet

ABSTRACT MODEL STUDY OF LATERAL EARTH PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION DEVELOPED ON A RIGID PASSIVE PİLE DAGISTANI, lyad M.S. in Civil Engineering Supervisor; Assoc.Prof,Dr.Ufuk ERGUN September, 1992, 166 pages. Landslide preveııtion is a majör problem where space is limited ör ¥hen corrective rneasures fail to insure the stability. The new method of dovelling the slide by inserting passive piles needed to be investigated. A model study of the lateral earth pressure distribution was carried out using a large direct shear box, kaolinite type olayey soil and a 30 cm long steel pile instrumented vith 16 nıiniature stress cells. Lateral earth pressure was measured in front and at the back side of the pile above and belov the slip surface, a model of rectangular lateral earth pressure distribution was proposed as an aid to be used in design of pile and slope stability problems, the lateral pressure vras defined in shape and magnitude in the main passive and quasi- passive zones around the pile. IIIA bearing capacity factor of about 2.7 above the slip surface and 8.8 belov the slip surface in the roain pressure zones vere found. 14% increase in the shear resistance was observed as a result of reinforcing the soil mass. it is found that previously used methods of estimating the lateral pressure values are overconservative above the sliding surface, these values affect the structural design of the piles and the value of the conrposite slopes safety factor.
