SUMMARY In this thesis al Nagrî, a Yemenite scholar who lived in the ninth sentury after Higra, and his method in commentary on the Qur'an was studied. The aim of the thesis is to give o begining to the studies on the Zaidite commentary books on which any serious study was n0t made. al Nagrî is related to the Zaidite sact which had been faunded by Zaid b.Ali and was edvanced and systematized leter on. By softening the regid and extreme theological and political views of Shi'a, this sact prepared a suitable ground for Ahi al Sunna and Shi'a to approach to each other. al Nagrî of whose life we know very little, after having the basic Islamic knowladges in Yemen, went to Egypt to complete his aducation and studied the main Islamic sciences under regard of the great scholars there. Then he returned to Yemen and lived there untill he died. al Nagrî who was one of the Zaidite authorities on Muslim Caronical jurisprudence, theology and Qur'anic commantery, wrote several books on these sciences. The most important of them is Sharh-u Âyât al Ahkâm, a commantary book of judical verses of the Qur'an, In his brief commantery whic is still in manuscripts and consists of one hundred and sixty sheets, al Nagrî managed to reflect all the caracteristics of o“traditional comenntary”al Nagrî, unlike the other Shi'î authors, apart from Zaidite authors' books, benefeted from Ahl al Sunna and Mu'tazila sources. İt is obvious from the comparisions and resonings he made in his book that Nagrî is a jurist who has a dagree over the“pure imitator”. al Nagrî interprited the judical verses of the Qur'an in Sharh-u Ayât al Ahkâm in accordance with their order in the Qur'an. İn his work, he has not an aim as justifying his sact. His basic aim is to put forward a summary of several vievws about the subject he discusses and give the reader a compact knowladge.
