Özet
Giresun Nahiyesi; Osmanlı Devleti dönemindeki idari yapılanmaya göre Karesi Sancağı'nın merkez kazası Balıkesir'e bağlı bir yerleşimdir. 15 Mayıs 1919'da İzmir'in işgaliyle Batı Anadolu başlayan Milli Mücadele hareketinde, Balıkesir'de yaşanan gelişmelerden doğrudan etkilenmiştir. Bu süreçte Balıkesir Kongrelerine delegeler gönderilmiş, nahiyede Kuvayı Milliye Heyeti oluşturulmuştur.Yunan işgalinin İzmir-Kuzey istikametinde yayılması üzerine Balıkesir Kongrelerinde, Akhisar'dan Ayvalık'a kadar cephe hattı oluşturuldu. Bu hat üzerinde bulunan Soma Cephesi'nin ikmal merkezi Giresun Nahiyesi'dir. 22 Haziran 1920'de İzmir-Kuzey istikametinde başlayan Yunan saldırısı sonucunda Akhisar ve Soma cephelerinde kuvvetlerimiz yenilmiştir. Yunan ilerleyişine karşı nahiyenin güneyinde yer alan Çomaklı mevkiinde Giresun Muharebesi yapılmış kuvvetlerimiz burada da bozulunca Bursa'nın doğusuna kadar geri çekilmiştir.İşgal döneminde de nahiye halkı Milli Mücadele'ye katkısını sürdürmüştür. Halkın bu katkılarına ve burada yapılan savaşlara binaen nahiyenin adı Cumhuriyet döneminde Savaştepe olarak değiştirilmiştir.

The district Giresun is a settlement of Balıkesir which is the central town of Karesi district during the period of Ottoman Empire according to the govermental settlement. With the eruption of the war of independence in West Anatolia on 15th May, 1999 by the invasion of İzmir; Balıkesir was also affected directly by the events. In this period, some deputies were delegated to Balıkesir congresses and a Turkish revolutionaries committee was organized.After the Greek invasion spreaded towards İzmir-North direction, a front line from Akhisar to Ayvalık was built up. The supply center of the front Soma centered in that front line is the district Giresun. Our forces in the fronts of Akhisar and Soma were defeated by the Greek invasion which was erupted on 22nd July ,1920 in İzmir against Greek movement, Giresun wars happened in Çomaklı site which is on the North of the district; however because of our forces? being defeated again , they fell back towards the east of Bursa .In the period of invasion, the public of the district kept helping for the war of independence. Therefore because of the contributions of the people there and because of the wars occured in that zone, the name of the district turned into Savaştepe in Republic Period.
