This selection study was carry out determine the promising walnut types, during the 3 years between 1990- 1992 in Darende. In this study 416 types were selected from about 6000 wild walnut trees (seedling) and fruit samples was collected these 62 walnut types were recommended as promising types from point of view of fruit quality and tree characteristics. In these selected types the average fruit weight was 7.53 g as average of 62 types and it ranged between 12.39 (44.DA.76)-18.49 (44. DA. 35) g. Kernel weight of selected types ranged between 6.50 (44.DA.002)-9.88 (44. DA. 406) g and average kernel weight were 7.53 g. Kernel percentage ranged between 42.06 % (44. DA. 236) -67. 73 (44. DA. 406) and average kernel percentage was found 50.50 %. In these selected types kernel color was found 40.32 % clean yellow. 51.61 % yellow and 8.07 % brown. Shell thickness as average of 62 types were 1.18 mm and this value ranged between 0.66 (44. DA. 406 )-l.56 (44. DA-.241) mm. The fat contents of selected types ranged between 50.00 % (44. DA. 207)- 73.61 % (44. DA. 127) and average value was 63.78 %. Fatty acid composition was determined in 15 walnut types. According to the walnut types average value was found as follows: myristic acid 0.415 %, palmitic acid 14.330 %, stearic acid 4.500 %, oleic acid 32.062 %. li- noleic acid 37.670 %. linolenic acid 11.020 % and arachidic acid 0.886 %.175 The protein contents of selected types ranged between 11.14 % (44. DA. 003) - 23.72 % (44. DA. 241) and ave rage protein content was 16.79 %. The ash contents of selected types ranged between 2.10 % (44. DA. 002) -2.95 % (44. DA. 251) and average ash percentage was found as 2.42 %. Flowering habits of selected types were determined as protandrous 68.66 %. protogynous 25.37 % and homogamous 5.97 %.
