Özet
1960'larda İskandinav tasarım ekolunun katkılarıyla yaşanan bir yenilenme ile cam ustası zanaati bir moda haline gelmiştir. Ucuz sanayi camları ve sofra takımları ürün pazarını ele geçirse de lüks özel üretimlere de devam edilmiştir. Amerika kıtasında ise stüdyo cam hareketinin başlaması ile cam artık heykel sanatının içinde yerini almıştır. 1960'larda çarpıcı bir şekilde stüdyo camı hareketinden etkilenerek keşfedilme ve biçimlendirilme sürecine girilmiştir. Bu dönemde, yakın geçmişin cam üretim yöntemlerine, toplu üretime dönük tasarım anlayışına ve buna bağlı olarak kolay elde edilme çabalarına karşı bir duruş başlamıştır. Ekonomik dalgalanmalar yaşayan İsveç cam fabrikaları, sektörü ayakta tutmak için yenilikçi bir yol izlemişler ve deneysel teknik arayışlarına girmişleridir. Bu dönemde Afors firması bünyesinde çalışan Bertil Vallien kuma cam döküm tekniğini geliştirerek cam teknikleri arasına yenilik katmıştır.Kuma cam döküm tekniğinin uygulama aşaması bir model yapılması ile başlar. Basit metodta kum kalıp yapımı ve sert kum kalıp yapımı olarak iki farklı bölümden oluşan teknik için model seçimi son derece önemlidir. Daha sonra kum kalıbın hazırlanması, kalıbın isteğe bağlı olarak renklendirilmesi ya da farklı etkiler katılması ile süreç devam eder. Hazırlanan kalıp boşluğu içerisine sıcak cam dökülmesi ile birlikte işlem sonladırılır.Artistik kuma cam döküm tekniği, cam sanatına yeni bir soluk getirmiştir. Cam tekniklerine bir çok farklı alternatifler getiren kuma cam döküm tekniği doku, form ve renk anlamında da bir çok yeniliği beraberinde sunmuştur. Kuma cam döküm tekniği kütlesel cam heykel formları üretimi için uygun bir teknik olduğundan dolayı heykel sanatında da kendini göstermiştir. Geliştirilen kuma cam döküm tekniği sayesinde cam sadece bir malzeme çeşiti olmaktan çıkarak kendi başına söz söyleyebilen bir form haline gelmiştir.

A renewal in the 1960s, the contribution of the Scandinavian school of design has become a fashion with a glass master craft. Though the cheap industrial glass tableware products have taken the market, the luxury custom fabrication was contuniued. With the beginning of the studio glass movement in America, glass art has taken place in sculpture art. Studio glass movement in the 1960s dramatically affected by the formatting process of discovery and entered. During this period, glass production methods of the recent past, mass production-oriented design concept, and accordingly began to make a stand against the efforts of the easy attainability. During this progress in America, Swedish glass factories which are having economic fluctuation have followed an innovative way and get in the search of experimental techniques to keep the industry alive. During this period, Bertill Vallien who worked for Afors has developed the technique of sand casting.Sand casting technique starts with making a model. Shape and type of the material of model is important. The choice of model is so important for the technique which differs as simple sand mould and hard sand mould. It continues with preparing the sand mould, coloring the mould if wanted or adding different effects. And it ends with casting hot glass into the blank prepared in the mould.Artistic sand casting has brought a new life in glass art. Sand casting technique which brought several alternatives to glass techniques, also presents lots of innovations in texture, form and colour. Sand casting technique has showed up in the sculpture art because it is appropriate for production of massive sculptures in glass. Glass material has come out of being just a material and turned into a form that can tell itself with the contributions of developed sand casting technique.
