Özet
Çalışmamız; giriş, üç bölüm ve sonuçtan oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümünde çalışmanın konusu, önemi ve metodolojisi ifade edildikten sonra, alt ve üst tabakalaşma kavramının sosyolojik tespitleri yapılmıştır. Ayrıca tabakalaşma teorilerine yer verilerek tezde kullanılacak kavramların alt yapısı oluşturulmuştur. Birinci bölümde İslâm öncesi Mekke toplum yapısı incelenmiştir. Bu bölümde Mekke'nin fizikî yapısı, şehrin yönetimini elinde bulunduran Kureyş kabilesi, yaygın olan dinî inançlar, tarihî süreç içerisinde şehrin yönetimi, iktisadî faaliyetler ve sosyal yapı hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. İkinci bölümde semantik ağırlıklı olarak, Mekkî ayetlerde geçen alt ve üst tabaka kavramları tahlil edilmiştir. Mekkî ayetler içerisinde üst tabakaya işaret eden mele', mütref, ekâbir ve istekber kavramları inceleme konusu yapılmıştır. Alt tabaka kavramları olarak genel hitap özelliğine sahip duafâ' ve erâzil kavramları ile birlikte özel nitelikteki yetim, köle (fekku rakabe-meleket eymân-abd), miskin ve sâil-mahrûm kavramları tahlil edilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde ise kavramlar çerçevesinde tespit edilen alt ve üst tabaka davranışları tasnife tabi tutularak; dinî, sosyal ve iktisadî olmak üzere üç ana başlıkta araştırılmıştır. Bu bölümde Mekke toplumunun cahiliye adetlerinden kalma dinî inançlarının İslâm ile çatışan yönleri, sosyal statü etkisi dikkate alınarak incelenmiştir. Sosyal davranışlar çerçevesinde Mekke ileri gelenleri ile Müslümanların ilişkileri araştırılarak, Mekke üst tabakasının Müslümanları küçümseyen tavırlarının iktisadî durumları ile olan bağlantısı incelenmiştir.

This study consists of introduction, three chapters and conclusion. The introductory chapter first explains the subject, significance, and method of the dissertation. It then examines the concepts of super-stratum and sub-stratum. The introductory chapter also focuses on forming the substructure of the concepts used in the dissertation by evaluating stratification theories. The first chapter analyzes the social structure in Mecca before Islam. This chapter presents information on the psychical structure of Mecca, Quraysh tribe governing the city, common religious beliefs, administration of the city in historical process, economic activities, and social structure. The second chapter semantically deals with the concepts related to sub-stratum and super-stratum in Meccan verses. This chapter first investigates the meanings of the concepts related to super-stratum such as mala', mutraf, akâber, and istakbar in Meccan verses. It then analyzes the meaning of the concepts related to sub-stratum and addressing general such as duafâ' and arâzil as well as the concepts addressing specific such as orphan, slave (fekku rakabe-meleket eymân-abd), miskin, and sâil-mahrûm. The third chapter classifies the super-stratum and sub-stratum behaviors in the framework of the concepts in three main titles: religious, social, and economic. The chapter analyzes the aspects of religious beliefs from ignorance period of Meccan society conflicting Islam with particular consideration of the effects of social status. It examines the relationship between the notables of Mecca and Muslims in the framework of the social behaviors. It also investigates the connection between the behaviors of super-stratum in Mecca, which underestimate Muslims, and their economic conditions.
