This study has been carried out in order to determine some physical properties of wool obtained from Red Karaman, raising at the Kaz~ Karabekir Agricultural station. In the study, as material, the wool samples of the total 50 one year old female and single born yearlings, were used. The wool samples were taken from the rib regidn of the sheep in shearing of 1988. In these samples, staple and fiber length, fiber diameter, resilience clean fiber persentage and the coefficient of friction were analyzed. The obtained results, including body weight and fleece weight, was summarized as below. The mean body weight of the sheep which were weighted with a bascule accurate to 50 gr. was found to be 42.5 kg. The fleece weight determined by a hand scale accurate to 45 gr. was 1.280 kg. The staple length as a avarage of the longest fiber, when the long and the short fibers found end of staple were not in consideration, determined to be 9.650 cm. The fiber length measured with a ruler, by pulling from its tips with a penny. unstretched,' condition, just to be removing its crimps, was 13.982 cm for innercoat and 13.845 cm for outercoat. The mean fiber diameter measured by micro - projection method according to the short - section method was 330154 mikron. The medullated and kempy fibers percentages determined according to the same method were % ?3 and % 1.5 respectiVely. ~e resili,nce values as avarage after one and five minutes,,)! waiting period \~ere % 79)0902 and % 82.148, °respeotively. The avarage o! clean fiber percantage determined according to method by Dlizgline~ and Pekel (1968) and Sonmez (1978) was % 70.323. The coefficient of friction ( U2 / Ul value ) in Red Karaman wool samples, by using method of Alexander and Hudson (1954)and Onions (1962) were determined as 1.681 for innercoat and 1.477 for outercoat.
