ABSTRACT - An art work is the product of definite thought, effort and process. During the creation of an art piece, an artist make his experiences which is provided by his or her subjective inner life by integrating it with his/her creative imagination. At the same process, visual elements produce a space of an art by arranging around a principle. This arrangement is a must for an art work in order to have an art characteristics. There are two important factors which affect the space concept of a painting one of which is the psychology of an artist» the other is the aesthetic values around the artist and finally his choices. These elements are the terminative factors of 'deep', 'plastic* and 'area' space concepts. The painting space view which is based upon the miniature aesthetic of the Turkish Art passes to a different phase by the Western influences. Introduction of the light, shade, perspective in scientific planning to the drawing art prevents area technique of the Eastern art characteristic.During the early years of the 20*h century, '1914 Generation1 artists tried to bring impressionist influences. The space of the arts of the artists of this age had been formed under the influences of light and colour. At the works of the artists union of Independent Painters and Sculptors in 1928 during the Turkish -Republic the volume values of space and objects were important. Group D was associate a reaction to the academism in 1933. In cubism it is important to see the objects as a geometrical forms rather than dividing, and applying the classical rules. There are the principles of the association. 'Group of the New Artists' had been established in 1941, they emphasized the social content against of the Group D's formism. This group had been dissolved in 1952. Many of the members of the group showed an inclination of abstract art which come from the Western art. The abstract trends covered the painting space after the 1950. In 1960 there are figurative works, and these figurative approaches are becoming more modern. There are some changes parallel with the developments of the technology in workshops. There are some increase in the artists who became famous recently and who have different styles; this situation brings multi-faced approaches at the same time. These tendencies which applied extensively are becoming different and modern interpretations in painting space.
