Oxyethylene/oxypropylene diblock copolymers (EmPn) and triblock copolymers (EmPnEm and PnEmPn) were prepared by sequential anionic polymerisation and characterised by gel permeation chromatography and NMR spectroscopy. Dilute aqueous solutions of copolymers Eio2P37> E57p46Es7 and P19E113P19 were investigated by Dynamic Light Scattering, Static Light Scattering (including Refractive Index measurement) and Surface Tension. The Gel-Sol behaviour of concentrated solutions was also investigated. The effect of block structure on the association behaviour of copolymers EmPn, EmPnEm, PnEmPn was assessed by their association numbers (Nw). Nw: EmPn> EmPnEm> PnEmPn. Dilute aqueous solutions of copolymers E104P52, E92P55* Eio5p60 and E98P73 were investigated by Dynamic Light Scattering, Static Light Scattering (including Refractive Index measurement) and Surface Tension. The Gel-Sol behaviour of concentrated solutions was also investigated. The effect of block structure on the association behaviour of copolymer was assessed by their critical micellar-eoncentration and association numbers (Nw) cmc : E104P52 > Ep2P55> E105P6O > E98P73 and for Nw: E98P73 > E92P55 > Ei05P6O>EiO4P52. Dilute aqueous solutions of copolymers E45P39, E75P47 and E104P52 were investigated by Dynamic Light Scattering, Static Light Scattering (including Refractive Index measurement) and Surface Tension. The Gel-Sol behaviour of concentrated solutions was also investigated. Since July 1994 until the present time, he has been engaged in full time research at the University of Manchester, Department of Chemistry. The work carried out throughout this period forms the basis of this thesis.
