For minorities, there is no doubt that the preservation and transmission of their specific identity are the most important aspects of their lives. The education rights of minorities are crucially important to this issue. Education rights cover mainly the curriculum of minority schools, the opportunity to learn one's mother tongue properly and the right to establish and control the private schools where a minority is located. Training of the minority schools' teachers is critical aspect of adequate education of the minority's children. Education rights are also important for the Muslim-Turkish minority in Greece. Specific rights can protect them against assimilation and allow them to develop their culture. Following the introduction, Chapter One will briefly explain the concept of a minority and self-identification and will also touch briefly on the history of the minority. Chapter Two will analyse the education rights of minorities under conventions, declarations and official comments. The last chapter will consider the education rights of the Minority and the obligations of the Greek state under specific provisions, especially under the Treaty of Lausanne.
