The main question to be answered is: what is the nature of the growth in Turkey under the AKP? By drawing upon literature on the hegemony concept, this paper argues that AKP has been very successful on the reconfiguration of class relation in Turkish society. Neo-Gramscian perspective is used to analyse Turkey's political economy. The critical analysis includes quantitate research, provided helping by the World Bank Database and Turkish Statistical Institution Database. The growth was average 5,082%1 per year between 2002-2010 which looks different than previous periods. However, statistics give a thought that the amount of import, export, and gdp do not draw a better picture of Turkey's economic activities during the economic growth path than pre-Justice and Development Party2 period. Therefore, the research question is what is the nature of economic growth in Turkey under the AKP between 2002-2010 which means the AKP's first-two terms being in the government. Although there has been continuing debate on the existence of the economic growth in Turkey during the AKP, this study does not query it. The research accepts the economic growth was an accomplishment by the AKP. However, my argument here is that the AKP has been successful at mobilizing its social base which has formalized to the nature of economic growth. In other words, its achievement on the configuration of class relation was an overwhelming contribution to gain the economic growth. Also, looking to Turkey's political economy during the AKP's first-two periods leads this study has a neo-Gramscian perspective for combining class dynamics with the political economy structure of Turkey by applying hegemony concept.
