Özet

Bu araştırmada fen ve teknoloji dersinde belgesel kullanılmasının 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin ?Hücre Bölünmesi ve Kalıtım? ile ?Kuvvet ve Hareket? konularındaki başarılarına ve bilimin doğası hakkındaki görüşlerine etkisi araştırılmıştır. Eskişehir?de bir orta okulda bulunan 22 sekizinci sınıf öğrencisiyle çalışmanın ön uygulaması yapılmıştır. Ön uygulama sonucunda araştırmada kullanılan belgeseller ve veri toplama araçları iyileştirilmiştir. Uygulama 2012-2013 eğitim-öğretim yılında Eskişehir?de bulunan iki orta okulda yapılmıştır. Uygulama sekizinci sınıf öğrencileriyle fen ve teknoloji dersinde altı haftalık bir süreçte gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmaya deney ve kontrol gruplarında yer alan 113 öğrenci katılmıştır. Deney grubundaki öğrencilere fen ve teknoloji öğretmeni tarafından ?Hücre Bölünmesi ve Kalıtım? ünitesi için Bilim ve Yaşam-Mendel, Bilim ve Yaşam-DNA, Charles Darwin ve Yaşam Ağacı isimli belgeseller ile ?Kuvvet ve Hareket? ünitesi için Arşimet, Wright Kardeşler Uçak Nasıl Bulundu ve İlk Uçma Denemeleri isimli belgeseller izletilmiştir. Kontrol grubundaki öğrencilere ise fen ve teknoloji dersi öğretim programının önerdiği şekilde fen ve teknoloji öğretmeni tarafından dersler işlenmiştir. Veriler Lederman ve Ko (2004) tarafından geliştirilen VNOS- E (Views of Nature of Science Elementary Level) anketi ve araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen 20 çoktan seçmeli sorudan oluşan hücre ve kuvvet başarı testi ile toplanmıştır. Ayrıca her okuldan 14 öğrenciyle (7-deney, 7-kontrol) çalışmanın başında ve sonunda VNOS-E anketi kullanılarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Başarı testinden elde edilen sonuçlar incelendiğinde deney grubundaki öğrencilerin başarı ön test ve son test puanları ve kontrol grubundaki öğrencilerin başarı ön test ve son test puanları arasında anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmaktadır. Ancak deney ve kontrol gruplarındaki öğrencilerin ön testte göre düzeltilmiş başarı son test puanları arasında anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmamaktadır. Bilimin doğasına ilişkin kullanılan VNOS-E anketinden elde edilen sonuçlar incelendiğinde kontrol grubu öğrencilerinin bilimin doğası temaları hakkındaki görüşlerinin ön testleri ve son testleri arasında anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmamıştır. Deney grubundaki öğrencilerin bilimsel bilginin değişken olması (BD1), bilimsel bilginin mantıksal, matematiksel ve deneysel çıkarımlar içermesi (BD2), bilimsel bilginin öznel olması (BD3), bilimsel bilginin elde edilmesinde hayal gücünün ve yaratıcılığın önemli bir rolünün olması teması (BD4) hakkındaki görüşlerinin ön testleri ve son testleri arasında anlamlı bir farklılık varken, bilimsel bilginin üretiminde gözlem ve çıkarımın farklı olması teması (BD5) hakkındaki görüşlerinin ön testleri ve son testleri istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık yoktur. Deney ve kontrol grubu öğrencilerinin bilimin doğasının dört teması (BD1, BD3, BD4, BD5) hakkındaki görüşlerinin son testleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık varken, bir teması (BD2) hakkındaki görüşlerinin son testleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık yoktur. Bu araştırma, fen ve teknoloji dersinde belgesel kullanılmasının öğrencilerinin başarılarının artırılmasına ve bilimin doğası hakkındaki görüşlerini geliştirilmesine olumlu katkı sağlayabileceğini göstermektedir.

Özet (Çeviri)

The present study investigated the influence of using documentary movies in 8th grade students? achievements in the areas of ?Cell Division and Heredity? and ?Force and Motion? and on their views about the nature of science. The study was piloted with 22 8th grade students attending an elementary school in the city of Eskisehir. As a result of this pilot study, the documentary movies and the data collection tools used in the study were improved. The main study was carried out in two elementary schools found in Eskisehir in the academic year of 2012 -2013. The study was conducted with elementary school 8th grade students in the course of Science and Technology in a period of six weeks. A total of 113 students found in the experimental and control groups participated in the study. The science and technology teacher made the experimental group students watch the documentary movies of Science and Life-Mendel, Science and Life-DNA and Charles Darwin and Tree of Life for the lesson unit of ?Cell Division and Heredity? and the documentary movies of Archimed, Wright Brothers How was plane invented and First Flying Tests for the lesson unit of ?Force and Motion?. As for the control group students, they were taught the lessons in line with Science and Technology Curriculum. The data were collected via the questionnaire of VNOS- E (Views of Nature of Science Elementary Level) developed by Lederman and Ko (2004) and via a 20-item multiple-choice achievement test developed by the researcher. In addition, semi-structured interviews were held with 14 students from each school (7 students from the experimental group, and the other 7 students from the control group) by using the questionnaire of VNOS-E at the beginning and end of the study. When the results obtained from the achievement test were examined, a significant difference was found between the pretest and posttest achievement scores of the experimental group students and between the pretest and posttest achievement scores of the experimental group students. However, no significant difference was found between the corrected posttest achievement scores of the experimental and control group students. No significant difference was found between pretests and posttests regarding the control group students? views about the themes of the nature of science. There was a significant difference between the pretests and posttests of the experimental group students? views about such themes as variability of scientific information (BD1), logical, mathematical and experimental deductions included in scientific information (BD2), subjectivity of scientific information (BD3) and important role of creativity and imagination in obtaining scientific information (BD4), while no significant difference was found between the pretests and posttests of their views about the theme of difference between observation and deduction in the production of scientific information (BD5). In addition, there was a statistically significant difference between the posttests of the experimental and control group students? views about the four themes of the nature of science (BD1, BD3, BD4, BD5); however, no statistically significant difference was found between the posttests of their views about one theme (BD2). The present study demonstrates that use of documentary movies in science classrooms could contribute positively to students? achievements as well as their views about the nature of science.
