153 SUMMARY Mir'âtü'z-zaman Fî Tarihi'l-Âyan, which is one of the important sources of the Seljukid history, contains considerable information about this important period Turkish history. Since this work is an important source about the periods of the Seljukid sovereigns, i.e. sultan Tuğrul, sultan Alp Arslan and sultan Melikshah, it is not considered necesserily in recent times. In this thesis we have tried to bring up the informations about the period of sultan Alp Arslan in Mir'âtü'z-zaman. According to this work, sultan Alp Arslans military activities, his relations with the emirates and local principalities and especially with the Abbasid chaliphate comes into being. Sıbt Ibnu'l-Cevzî the author of Mir'âtü'z-zaman, is the only historian who has seen the lost book of Garsunni'me Muhammed b. Hilâl es-Sâbi' which is called Uyûnut-tevârih, and made detailed narrations from this book. In that case, working on this book gains a special value. The thesis, which is about Alp Arslans' role in history as a commander and as a sovereign of a state, has a complementary nature of the same works which was carried out until! recent times.
